It sounds like you have a lose connection for the lighting. It may be at the light bulb socket or even at the door switch. It also could be a lose wire going to or from these items. with a little detective work you should be able the bad connection. I hope this helps :)
If there is no noise, like the machine is calibrating or setting up, then more than likely the fuse on the transformer has blown. If the needle motor and feed motor make their usual noise and the lights come on but the screen won't come on, chances are a connection inside the machine is your problem. If the cable from the display screen becomes unplugged, the machine will "start up" but nothing will be displayed on the panel. If when you turn on the machine, you touch the screen and hear the "click" sound the screen makes then its a problem with the display screen only. (there are 2 screens, the one you touch your finger with is the touch screen and the one behind it displaying the picture is the display screen.)
I believe you may be referring to 'pinging', Try a tank of premium gas and see if it stops. Check your timing, and when was it last tuned? Let me know what u find. countrycurt0
