If this is a BIOS password, you'll need to open up the tower and look for a jumper that says 'reset bios' or 'reset CMOS'. Move the jumper to the other pins and turn the computer on. NOTE: check to make sure your model needs to be turned on or not. When it beeps, turn it off. Then move the jumper back to its original position and start normally. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: windows does not load after gateway logo

This sounds like you have no operating system on your laptop. I bet someway, just as I did before, you have lost your operating system, and it needs to be reinstalled on your computer.

SOURCE: booting up

Try to start up with the windows XP CD in the drive, it will give you some options to reinstall or repair XP. If this doesnot work, ensure that your BIOS will startup from CD.

SOURCE: Key board not working

It's a hardware issue,
Maybe RAM or hard drive..

Did you get it used? If so the password was set b4 you purchase it, and will not show up when you type,,,It stays hidden.

Your getting this screen because there is a hardware failure. Fix the problem and you wont need the BIOS password.

Press<esc> to enable startup message, This should give you more info on the problem.

I have a Compaq desktop PC , model no. " (AK)

you will have to google the make/model. I recommend you use Gateway instead of compaq as only gateway results show if the model-only is googled. I don't believe that is a compaq, nor does it follow their normal 'naming' schema.

Once you locate the manual you will search it for the BIOS password reset instructions. That model may also have the Hard drive locked, once you are able to enter the BIOS you can follow the manual's instructions to look-for, and if found, clear any Hard drive password.

Note: Clearing the BIOS passwords will have no effect on any Operating System password on your User Account, (if any.)

I forgot my password, where do I go for assistance so they can email me my password

Resetting the System Password
If you forget your password and still cannot remember it after seeing your hint, click the I still can't remember the password link.
The Reset System Password page opens.
To obtain access to your system:
1. In the System Key field enter the 10-digit system key located on the bottom of your gateway.
2. In the Enter New Password field, enter a new system password. In the Confirm New Password field, reenter the system password.
3. In the Enter Your Hint field, enter an appropriate hint as described under "Setting a System Password" .
4. Click Submit.
Setting a System Password
Setting a system password protects your gateway settings from being modified or changed by someone who has not been given permission to do so. After setting a system password, you will be required to enter it whenever you attempt to access a gateway configuration page - for example, if you try to change the gateway's broadband connection settings or upgrade the gateway software. If a password has not been set,
a reminder notice is displayed when you attempt to access pages where settings can be changed.
To set your system password:
ā€¢ Open a Web browser and access the gateway user interface by entering
http://gateway.2wire.net.
ā€¢ Click the System tab.
ā€¢ Click the System Password link in the System area of the Network at a Glance panel to open the Edit
System Password page.
1. In the Settings panel, click the Enable checkbox.
2. In the Enter New Password field, enter your password.
3. In the Confirm New Password field, re-enter your password.
4. Optional: In the Enter Your Hint field, enter a hint.
A hint is a word, phrase, or question that reminds you what the password is. There is an I forgot the password link on the password entry page. When you click this link, it shows you your hint and allows you to enter your password.
5. Click SAVE.

Forgot my password want to restore like factory new i have a gateway laptop mt3421

Hi.

  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer, using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, repeatedly press the F8 key. The Advanced Boot Options menu opens.
  5. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select Repair your Computer, and then press the ENTER key.

  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate keyboard layout, and then click Next.

  7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the down arrow to select a user account that has Administrator rights, then click OK.

Note: The Administrator account is disabled by default.

  8. In the System Recovery Options window, select Recovery Manager.

  9. In the Gateway Recovery Center window, click Next.

  10. In the Gateway system recovery window, select Full factory recovery.

  11. In the All data will be lost window, select Yes, and then click Next.

  12. The Windows partition is formatted and Windows is installed.

  13. In the Recovery is complete window, click Finish.

  14. In the System Recovery Options window, select Restart.

When the computer restarts you will need to set up the laptop again.

Good luck.

I have a gateway laptop and when I start it up, it will show the windows start up screen and then the screen goes black. How do I fix this?

Something to try:

Power Off computer. Turn it back ON then when you see gateway logo start tapping on the F8 key and it will take you to Windows Advanced Options. Select safemode and press enter. If it ask you to select a Operating System just press enter. You will see white text. Once you get to the icons on your desktop It will state that it is running in safemode click on yes, then go to
Start Menu then All programs then Accessories then System tools then System Restore. Select to restore to an earlier date then in the calendar select a bolded date at least a week ago. Follow the prompts and your system will restart. This does not hurt to try. Hope that helps.
