Password in login
SOURCE: login menu repeats and never lets me log in
It sounds like it thinks you're typing the wrong password. Is Caps Lock on? Are you sure you're typing the right password?

This is a pretty unusual problem but it should be easy enough to fix. If you're getting the login screen after logging in and it keeps doing the same thing without any prompt from you, there's a problem with the login kernel of the OS itself.
I'd recommend booting to the install DVD (Mac OS X Install DVD) - do this by inserting it and restarting by holding down the 'C' key until you see the Apple logo and spinning gear.
After choosing your language, on the next screen go to the Utilities menu in the upper left, choose Disk Utility, choose 'Mac HD' on the left and click 'Repair Disk.' There will also be 'Repair Disk Permission,' IGNORE IT.
Ostensibly it should find and repair the problem. To restart, go to Mac OS X Installer > Quit Mac OS X Installer and choose restart.
If the problem persists, boot to the install DVD again and reinstall - it will not mess with any of your documents, movies, music, or other personal documents. Basically just keep hitting next/agree/continue until it says it is installing, which will take 30-45 minutes.
Good luck!

If anyone could reset the login password, there would not be very much security. So the purposely require you to take it to the Apple store in order to reset it. Call first, so you can be sure they are willing and able to do it when you arrive, because that level of technical help is not available at all times.
