How do I turn off the close captioning on my dvd box.

There should be a setup box at the beginning of the movie that will allow you to turn off the caption.

What's the HDMI source? You need to disable the CC on the cable box or DVD player. These are only two of the possible HDMI sources that will provide the captions directly.

Without knowing the source, I can't tell you how to disable the captions. For many devices, you'll need to enter the settings. (Some cable/IPTV boxes will need a passcode to enter the settings menu.) On my IPTV box, the CC option is tucked into the Hardware Settings under Audio. On some satellite TV boxes, I found that the closed captioning had to be turned on at the primary box and that would enable secondary boxes to also show the captions. (It was an annoying feature for a family with one hard-of-hearing guest. They didn't need closed captions on the primary box. The specifics of their set-up and service meant that the secondary box couldn't display captions directly.)

You need to turn off closed caption in your source device such as a cable box or satellite receiver.

If the cc button on your Sharp remote control isn't turning them off then the captions may be coming from your cable box. The hidden menu to access closed captioning on the cable box is usually found by turning it off and then (yes I did say turn the cable box off) then press the menu button on the front of it immediately after turning it off. Then you navigate down to captions and disable them. When you turn the cable box back on the captions should no longer be there.

This is probably the text box function of the closed caption decoder. Find the closed caption button on your remote and turn off the closed captioning. The button may say "ccd" or "cc". You might have to turn it off in the menu.

On the 27" TruFlat the closed caption button is hidden within the DVD buttons. You have to press it multiple times to shut off closed caption. It seems to have multiple sources for closed captions. Press the button until no source appears on the screen. ITS CONTROLED AT THE REMOTE CONTROL - NOT ON THE ON-SCREEN TV MENUS. Good Luck

meknow is right I think. To turn off your closed captioning hopefully all you need to do is get into the setup menu. You didn't list what kind of TV you have so this is a generic solution. Go into menu and in a setup menu there will be a closed captioning way to select to turn the box off.
The reason sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't is because some programs have closed cationing and some don't.
And because you are only seeing a blank box and not closed captioning is because there are different closed captioning standards. CC1, CC2, etc.
So if you can find the menu item that allows you to turn off the closed captioning, it would be a good start to solving your problem.

I work at at a school, and we had the same problem. Turns out, it a Closed Captioning problem.

We found the manual, and it states that "If a large black box covers 80% of your screen, the Text mode is probably set. Press 'Closed Caption' to turn it off." The "Closed Caption" button is on the remote. If you don't have the remote (as in our case), you can go to "Closed Caption" in the menu, and pick something like C4 and T4. That stopped the black box for us.

The annoying black box is usually a feature of the closed captioning called "Text" You should be able to go in to onscreen menu and select caption options. Unless you need to have the closed captioning on for medical reasons, it maybe best just to turn off all captioning options.

Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps
