I was told to remove the battery and SIM card, wait three minutes then power up the phone again. (Time and Date have to be reset) Unfortunately this did not solve the problem so it could be a Vodafone network problem. I am wary of trying the SIM in a different brand or model of phone in case of an unexpected reformat occurring, so until a duplicate phone arrives the job is on hold. In general one just cannot get the right staff these days. Take care!
This is usually due to the phone being lock to a distant cell tower, if that is the case just shut the phone off and remove the battery wait about 2 minutes and replace the battery and restart the phone,if that doesn't fix the problem it may be an internal problem or a carrier problem.

first thing to try is a battery pull ..remove battery for 30 secs the power on the phone ...if that doesnt work call your carrier and make sure you have the correct message center number
The problem is not on the phone setting but on the sim card itself. Remove the battery and the sim and let it sit for 5 minutes. After that, insert sim and battery then try sending a text message. To verify, insert your sim to another phone and use a different sim in your phone.
I would first try removing the sim card and placing it back in the phone. Open the battery cover, remove the battery, remove the sim card, rub it with a clean cloth on the metallic areas, replace the sim card, replace the battery, replace the cover. Turn phone back on.

Two things to try. One is remove the battery then remove the sim card make sure it is clean. Wipe it with alcohol. If it still does not work you may need to go to your nearest store and they should be able to check it for you to make sure there are no updates that your phone normally downloads and you never know it. Usually when they place a new tower. I had a similar problem. Also if your sim chip is bad ATT can replace it usually at no charge and that should fix the problem.
These devices are made to work in both modes you may have to reset, remove the battery while the cell is on and count to 30, then replace battery and power back on this should work! If it does'nt call your provider and check Sim card.
