If Closed Captioning is being displayed even though the CC option in the TV menu is set to Off , then it is being produced by another device, such as a cable or satellite set-top box. To remove the Closed Captioning from the TV screen, it must be disabled on the device that is decoding the Closed Captioned signal.
NOTE: Some set-top boxes may automatically display Closed Captioning on the TV screen when the set-top box sound is muted. If this is the case, turn off the Mute function of the set-top box

SOURCE: Closed Caption on Sony Bravia

Try a master reset on the TV. With the TV powered on, prss and hold down the up button on the remote (there are 4 buttons grouped together for up down left and right) and while holding down the up button, press the power button on the TV. The unit should power off and then turn back on and ask you to select a language. Let me know if this helps and be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: My Sony BRAVIA KDL-46V3000 Television has messed

This also happened to me and may continue to get worse... If it goes away for a while after warming up, then it is the same problem... The LCD panel is probably going out, when that happens the cost to repair it is more than the tv is worth... If it is in warranty then you can have it replaced or fixed.

SOURCE: Sony BRAVIA volume problem

I had this same issue, and solved it by putting the TV in "Theater Mode', which can be acheived by hitting the "Theater" button on the remote.

SOURCE: my KDL sony tv turns

6 times blinking standby light indicates problem with Audio Section in tv
Check AU 15V output of G2 (power supply) board then check AU board as it has sound processor and sound output ICs.
If you are not familiar with electronics stuff repair then call local tv repairman to repair it for you.
Thanks.

Testimonial: " I diconnected the power to the AU board but the problem remained. I am assuming that the 15V output is for the AU board only. Any other suggestion?"

How do i turn off the closed caption on my toshiba 51h84 tv? i tried setting via the remote and changed the CC option to OFF but i still see the closed caption wording...it is driving me crazy!! help!

What is the source of your TV signal: Cable? Dish Networks? DirectTV? Antenna?
Many times the Cable/Dish Networks/DirectTV controller also has an option for closed captioning. Please verify that a controller is not setup to deliver the CC data.
Also, try setting the TV CC using 'C1' or 'T1' and selecting 'Enter' to accept the change; then come back and set CC to 'Off' again to see if toggling on/off helps.

How do i get caption only on mute

On newer Sony TVs you press the CC button to cycle through the available settings for Closed Captions (CC): On, Off, and On when
Muting.

However, it looks like your factory remote control lacks a CC button and your TV menu appears to have a simple Off/On option for what Sony calls Caption Vision. If that is the case then you would need to manually turn on Caption Vision when you mute the television. That hardly seems like the solution you're after.

If you had an aftermarket remote control that could record macros you might be able to program it so that when you press the mute button the TV would mute and also turn on Closed Captioning. This would require the proper remote control and some expertise.

How do I turn off the CC on Zenith VBR-2562Z Television?

Press the button marked "CC", on the remote control once. If there is no such button at the remote control, you have to enter its service mode option to make CC out. If you wish to get some details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Timeslide / Flipcard, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name / model number / IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Hi, I sent an earlier e-mail. Not sure it got through so repeating. Thanks. I am hearing impaired. My cat stepped on the remote and for some reason I can't get the closed captioning to work. Do you...

I would be surprised if the cat stepping on the remote control had anything to do with your problem unless the cat somehow managed to turn on "CC when mute" with the right combination of buttons (more on this below).

This procedure for setting closed caption is from the owner's manual. (p. xx is the Adobe Reader page # for the PDF version of the manual.) CC is not available for the YPbPr, VGA or DVI inputs:
  1. With the set on, press the Menu button. (p. 20)
  2. Use Ch +/- to select the Setup item. Press <Enter> to go into Setup. (p. 20)
  3. Use Ch +/- to select CC On/Off. The current status of CC should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. If it is off, press <Enter> to turn it on. (p. 36, p. 20)
  4. Use Ch +/- to go to the CC Mode. The current mode should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. Use Vol +/- to step through the modes. When you have the one you want, press <Enter> to confirm the selection. (p. 36, p. 20)
  5. When you have the settings you want, press Menu again to escape the sub-menu.
Note: the "CC when mute" turns on CC only when Mute is on. Check this CC menu item to see if it is on. It may override the CC On/Off if it was chosen after CC was turned on.

One last VERY IMPORTANT ITEM: The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Best Buy announced a recall on the IS-LCDTV26 models sold by Best Buy. Apparently there is a risk the power supply can overheat to the point of being a fire and burn hazard. The announcement, dated April 2, 2009, says to return the set to Best Buy to get a gift card for the value of a replacement TV. I don't know if the recall affects sets sold by other retailers. If this set is under recall, it is illegal to resell it. It is possible that you have a different version of the power supply and that's why you haven't had any problems so far, but you should check this out.

My closed caption on my new dynex 26L 150A11 will not turn on. I have followed all instructions in the book. I need the cc. any one have an answer? thanks cosycat

Hi,

There are several possibilities here so you will need to work with me to resolve this problem. In order for Closed Captioning (CC) to work, you need to make sure the CC settings are correct on the TV, and then make sure they CC is switched on. In addition, if you are using a cable or satellite receiver box, CC also needs to be switched on for these "boxes".

It's easiest to start with the TV. Please make sure you have done the following:

1. Check the Closed Caption settings are as follows from the TV on-screen menu as follows:

a) Press the "MENU" button on the DYNEX remote
b) Press the RIGHT arrow twice to highlight the "SETUP" menu
c) Press the DOWN arrow once to open the "SETUP" menu
d) Press the DOWN arrow twice to highlight "CLOSED CAPTION"
e) Press the RIGHT arrow or the "ENTER" button once to open the CLOSED CAPTION MENU
f) Make sure the Closed Caption option "CC MODE" is set to "ON". This can be changed using the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight "CC MODE" and using the LEFT/RIGHT arrows to switch between off and on.

The "Basic Selection" and "Advanced Selection" settings are for analogue and digital closed-captions respectively. In addition, the "Options" sub-menu can be used to change the size and style of the digital closed captions (Advanced Selection). All three of these options should eventually be set according to your personal preferences, but for the purposes of making sure it is working, I suggest you set them as follows:

Basic Selection = CC1
Advanced Selection = Service 1

These options are the basic settings which will display only the spoken dialogue of the TV program.

g) Press "EXIT" on the remote to close the menu and return to viewing mode.

2. Press the "CCD" button on your Dynex remote control. This can be found in the bottom right-hand corner of the remote. Each press of the "CCD" button will cycle the closed captions between ON and OFF. (CCD means Closed Caption Display)

3. Check the Closed Captions are displayed and then adjust the Basic and Advanced Selection options until the type and appearance of the closed captions are how you like them.

If you have done the above and still cannot get it to work, please let me know whether you are using a cable or satellite receiver and the brand/model number. I will then be able to assist you further.

Regards,
BElectric
