I keep getting clothes wrapped in the fin of my GE washer.

The agitator has 3 or 4 fins on it that has a very small gap between the fins and the bottom of the agitator, and the back of the fins near the center of the agitator have a kind of knitting needle hook shape the them(best i can think of to describe it. I have clothes that keep getting into this gap and behind the hook thus getting caught and being very hard to remove, in fact i've had to cut a couple things out. Does anyone have a solution to this, 2 of the fins are actually starting to to tear away due to this. I'll never own another GE appliance as we've had numerous problems with this washer and with a dishwasher aslo. Thank you in advance.

SOURCE: agitator making clicking noise when washing clothes; clothes wrapping around agitator

Hi,
If this a whirlpool brand washer, there are sone parts bad in the agitator it's self. These parts are called dogs and they make the agitator rachet so that the top half only goes one direction. Does this sound like what you are experiencing? If so, let me know and I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore 110. (full number is

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-11082984810/0582/0153200?pathTaken=

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

Look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

See the part "Dog, agitator "

Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Also see the following illustrated description of the above.

For future reference you might also want to review / print / save the following Whirl[pool / Kenmore Service Manual for these washers:

SOURCE: why is my whirlpool deut washer tearing clothes

Check the little holes around the drum, I have seen pins and needles get stuck in these and cause lots of damage. I would replace the seal.

Remove dual agitator

The agitator in your Maytag Dependable Care washer uses a back-and-forth motion to move your clothes from the top of the washtub to the bottom and back to the top again. The fins on the side of the agitator help facilitate this movement. When one of the fins sustains damage or the agitator fails to move, you must remove the agitator to make the necessary repairs.Disconnect your Maytag Dependable Care washer from the electrical wall outlet. Turn off the valves supplying water to the appliance.
2 Open the washer's lid to access the agitator. Look for a 1/4-inch hex screw recessed in an opening about three-quarters down the side of the agitator.
3 Insert a 1/4-inch nut driver into the opening in the side of the agitator. Fit the nut driver over the head of the screw. Turn the screw counterclockwise to remove it.Grab the bottom of the agitator with both hands. Pull the agitator from the bottom of the washtub.

I have a ge washer model # wcsr2080b2ww. it won't agitate. it will spin though

The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.) Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together. Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard.

Ge top loading washer wjsr4160gww. How can I open top cover and see the agitation? Suspect it is not agitatiing properly.

If you suspect this machine is not agitating try grabbing the fins at the bottom of the agitator and see if you can move it back and forth if it moves then you have a stripped coupler or a bad transmission.

GE washer won't agitate

I had this same problem with our GE top load washer.  I just needed to pull harder.  (Note: The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.)  Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together.  Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard. I had to take the entire tub out, lay it on the porch, put my feet inside of it, and pull the agitator assembly out.  I wasn't able to pull it out while it was still in the washer.  BE CAREFUL! DON'T **** IT OUT; that might injure your back; just pull out slowly and as hard as you can without hurting yourself.  I was able to get it out successfully, but I am currently stuck at removing the bell below the agitator.  Good luck!

Several pieces of clothing stuck under agitator.

you can remove the agitator. there are 3 steps to this. 1.take off the top plastic part of the agitator. 2 remove secondary plastic piece from inside of agitator 3. there will be a 7/16 bolt inside and will be deep so you will need a long extension to reach it. hold the fins of the agitator and remove the bolt with a ratchet. once the bolt is out you will be able to lift the agitator up.

F&P smart drive 601 washing machine will not advance from wash mode to rinse or spin mode

on those washers the waste water pump will get hair and **** wrapped around the shaft behind the pump fins. pull the washer forward and tip it back so you have access to under the front. on the right fron you will see a little pump. unplug the power clip and the ground wire. there will be a plastic tab you must bend a little so that you can twist the whole motor, not just the fin on the back, counter clockwise and remove. if you have water in the machine it will come pouring out. your machine will not rinse or spin if the waste water pump does not pump out enough water in its alloted time. when you have the motor out unscrew the pump fin cup thing and pull all the stuff off the pump. good luck.
