USB ports won't work on HP Pavilion ZV6008CL

I am unable to use any of the USB ports on my HP Paviliion ZV6008CL which is using XP . Anytime I attach a USB device, the computer says that the usb device is not recognized or in some cases the computer freezes and has to be rebooted if I attach a usb storage device. When this problem first occured, I uninstalled the usb root hubs and reinstalled the usb.inf file. After trying this, the ports started working again but the original problem started occuring again a few days ago. This time, the problem is still there even after I try reinstalling the usb driver like I had the first time. Does anyone know some approach I could try which may solve this problem?

It is referring to the USB ports on the back of your computer near where your keyboard plugs in. The front ones must be USB 1.1 which will cause this error.

I recently bought a used TEAC CDWE552-GB CD Burner for my old computer. I received the power cord and cable to power it up but not the cables to attach it to my computer ( HP Pavilion 4550Z ). The ports on...

Unfortunately, I don't think you can use this CD writer on the HP Pavilion 4550Z directly. The CDWE552-G is an external USB device. The HP Pavilion 4550Z doesn't have any USB ports.

There are two options that I think you could consider. 1) Get a USB card to insert into the micro-tower. It's currently easier to find PCI USB 2.0 cards, see https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100168119%20600022008 for some examples. Before purchasing, check to make sure the card is compatible with the OS on the HP Pavilion 4550Z. It started with Windows 98. You will have to remove the Fax/modem to use that slot. (An ISA card might work but I haven't seen an ISA bus USB card in years.)

2) Take the CD writer out of the external case. The CDWE552 should use an IDE cable; just swap this CD writer for the one in the micro-tower. The HP Pavilion 4550Z should have the appropriate cables inside the tower. The original CD reader specifications indicate it was an IDE device.

I hope this helps.

Usb ports (HP Pavilion dv2000 Laptop) unable to retreive data

NO OS STATE is this the XP virus maget , dead for 3 years now?
XP does not work on many USB devices even after the SP3 update
and THE SP3 UPDATE is mandatory. service pack 3
DV2000
id bet you if you booted to linux CD, (knoppix 7 live)
all usb ports work, telling you what, in seconds, XP IS DEAD.
for a fact.

google XP USB dead, (billions of hits for 16 long years)
MS dont support this OS nor VISTA or older.
HP does not support DV200o now its legacy hardware now.
MS plug and play is dead too on XP. per there warnings.
The means all new XP things will be dead, if the maker of said things
does not give you Their soft or that thing..

if hell bent on using XP ,(why) upgrade to W7
then get SP3 there.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55245

it came new with XP
and was VISTA READY, best is to go W7. !

Goodwill store has $20 laptops with W7 on it working now.
why wait, dump yours, and UPGRADE HW/SW all at once
and WIN.
why to not RUN XP (endless bad and advancing....)

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

My usb port does not respond on my HP laptop

Hello there.

I understand that you are unable to use the USB port of your computer.

To isolate the issue try performing these steps.

1) Check whether the device is working fine.
2) Check with other USB ports to the same Notebook.
3) If these steps do not work then you can do this.
a) If your Notebook is under warranty you can send it to free repair ( Contact HP.com for more information)
b) If it is not under warranty then check for the repair cost from HP.com chat support.
