Printer is not picking up paper from top tray

I would like to scan 4 - 5 papers at a time so I kept those many papers for scanning. But it is not picking up papers instead it scans single paper as if kept it on the printer glass (lifting the top cover)

They have either a seperation pad or a roller. This is under the top roller. The main feed roller.Clean roller with wd.-40. Believe it or not. Let it sit for 3to5 minutes and try. Now don't forget to fan your paper. Especially if your in a high static area. Environment plays a big role. Store your paper in a dry place.

SOURCE: Paper in 3310 HP

I have had exactly the same problem. Lost heaps of paper and very frustrated.

Last resort solution. Thought that the rollers that pick up paper have become smooth and not gripping paper. So waited until fault occured again (2 Pages later) did not press the ok button when asked to reload paper, and removed the back panel. Using a small artists brush dipped in metholated spirit I brushed the paper feed rollers that come in contact with the paper (not the rear visible rollers). Press the OK button and the paper feed rollers will rotate and try to pick up paper (two times) then will stop and ask for you to load paper and press OK again. Continue to press the OK button when asked, making the printer rotate the rollers while the brush is in contact with them until they have been thouroughly cleaned with the metholated spirit. I also slipper a sheet of 120 grit sandpaper dampened with metholated spirit under the rollers from the back and forced the printer to feed paper by pressing the OK button. Hold the sandpaper firm so that the rollers rotate on the sandpaper. This roughs up the roller surface.

Paper feed problem seem to be fixed.

Hope this works for you.

Cheers

Ron

SOURCE: paper transport does not work; terrible grinding noise

I took mine apart from the back and put it back together and it worked. It is probably due to moving it and the bottom paper tray alignment gets out of whack. I inspected all of the gear train and didn't find any worn or missing teeth. I suspect a paper jam started it and the user turned the printer around to open the back door. Since the handles are on the printer the tray doesn't move with it which allows it to separate and possibly jam a pickup drive gear.

SOURCE: Problem with scanning both from the auto feeder and from scanner glass

this is what HP has to say

This document applies to all HP product models. Issue When the product is turned on or in the middle of an operation, an unexpected noise occurs, such as clicking, thumping, or grinding. Blinking lights and error codes might accompany the noise. NOTE: Noises can be caused by a number of things. This document focuses on isolating, identifying, and resolving known causes of product noises. Solution Noises are subjective and can be difficult to describe. Some noises are normal to the operation of the product and might include the following:

  • The product might make humming and buzzing sounds as the carriage moves around on the right or left side of the product while cleaning the ink cartridges. This is normal when a product is turned on, before and after printing, after a product has been on standby for some time, after replacing an ink cartridge, or in the middle of a large print job.
  • During a print job, the movement of rollers, gears, carriage, and paper (paper feed and ejection) creates some noise.
  • During a print job, if the product is printing in the fast or draft mode, the noise level might be higher than when using the best or normal mode.
  • At the end of the print job, a louder clicking noise occurs as the paper is pushed to the output tray.
  • At the end of a print job, a noise emanates from the left or right side of the product as the pens are capped. The product might try to do this a couple of times.
Abnormal noises are a symptom of a problem. The most accurate way to determine the origin of a noise is to isolate where it comes from and when it occurs. Use the following steps to try to isolate the noise issue. NOTE: Error codes might indicate the source of the noise. Make a note of any error code or blinking lights that appear. Step one: Check for loose or broken parts
  1. Raise the cover of the product.
  1. Check inside for loose or broken parts.
  2. If there are broken parts, the product needs to be serviced.
  3. Step two: Make sure that accessories are installed correctly
  1. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Remove the power cord from the back of the product and unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Check any accessories (duplexer, envelope feeder, automatic document feeder (ADF)) to make sure each is installed and seated correctly.
  4. Plug the power cord into the back of the product and plug the power cord back into the power source.
  5. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
  6. If the noise still persists, remove each accessory one at a time to try to determine if the noise is associated with a single accessory or a combination.
  7. If the noise stops when a specific accessory is removed, that part might need to be replaced. If possible, exchange the accessory with a known good one or a new one to determine if the noise is associated with the accessory. NOTE: If the product is fully functional with the accessory in place, the noise might be normal.
  8. If the noise persists, proceed to the next step.
Step three: Check connection with computer Turn off the computer to determine if the computer is the source of the noise. If the noise persists, proceed to Step four. If the noise stops when the computer is turned off, try to isolate any issues with connectivity:
  1. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and from the back of the product.
  4. Wait a couple of minutes to allow static to be discharged.
  5. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet and plug the power cord into the back of the product.
  6. Connect the product to a different USB port.
  7. Turn on the computer.
  8. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
  9. If the noise persists, service the product.
Step four: Check for a paper jam Paper jams can prevent the internal components of the product from moving, which can create unusual noises.
  1. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  3. Remove the rear access door.
  4. Remove any paper that is inside the product by pulling it out through the rear access door and then securely replace the rear access door.
    1. If a paper jam cannot be removed from the back of the product, raise the product cover, carefully remove the paper jam from the front of the product, and then lower the cover.
NOTE: Remove any paper jam carefully as it is possible to damage the product when removing a jam from the front of the product.
    1. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
    2. Reload the paper in the paper tray.
    3. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
    4. Try to print. If a jam is cleared and the product prints, but the noise persists, proceed to the next step.
    5. Step five: Make sure that the carriage moves freely
    1. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the product.

    1. Make sure that the ink cartridges are locked into the carriage and have not come loose. Also make sure that there are no obstructions under or around the carriage to prevent it from moving.
    2. Close the product cover and reconnect the power cord.
    3. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
    4. If the noise persists, proceed to the next step.
    5. Step six: Plug the product into a wall outlet
If the product is plugged into an uninterruptible power supply, that source might make a beeping or whistling noise.
    1. Unplug the power cord from any power strips or surge protectors.
    2. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet instead.
    3. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product. If the noise persists, proceed to the next step. If the noise stops when plugged directly into a wall outlet, the power strip or surge protector might not be allowing sufficient voltage to reach the product and might need to be replaced.
Step eight: Service the product If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

SOURCE: how do I set scan option

Look at this URL: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=57769 for details

The scan options will depend on which version of Vista you are running. Since the Home Premium version is the most common, I'd suggest you look for Windows Photo Gallery or Paint and then under File look for the Import from Scanner or From Scanner (depending on the program).

This will work if your computer is directly connected to the scanner. If you have a router or print server that let you network your All-in-One, you need to look at the specifics for that product.

    I hope this helps.

If the Paper Output Tray is closed, open it. The machine resumes scanning. If opening the Paper Output Tray does not resolve the problem, or if the tray was open to begin with, the paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the printer, then press the Black or Color button.

My samsung printer is not picking up the sheets of paper correctly and they seem to be sticking on the roller

It could be a dirty pickup roller in printer. Found following advice from Samsung:

Printer will not feed the paper depends on following possibility.
    • Paper Type:
      • If surface of the paper is too smooth, pick-up roller will not feed the paper.
      • In such case, try with different type of paper.
    • Pick-up Roller:
      • If the rubber roller is worn out, it will not feed the paper from the tray. There is not enough friction to feed the paper.
      • Pull the paper tray out and clean the rubber roller.

    Printer will not scan pictures.

Introduction To use the scan features, the HP All-in-One and computer must be connected to each other and turned on. The HP All-in-One software must also be installed and running on the computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP All-in-One software is running on a Windows computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the system tray at the lower right side of the screen, near the time. NOTE: Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause the HP All-in-One to lose some of its scan functionality and result in a No Connection error message. If this happens, correct it by restarting the computer or by starting the HP Image Zone software. Follow the instructions below to scan documents from the all-in-one to an application. Make a Scan Step one: Load paper
    1. Open the paper tray door. Figure 1: Opening the paper tray door c00315283.gif
    2. Pull the paper tray extender toward you, as far as it will go. Flip the paper catch at the end of the paper tray extender to open the extender the rest of the way. WARNING: Legal paper might get caught on the paper tray extender if it is fully extended when you print onto legal paper. To avoid a paper jam when using legal-size paper, do not open the paper tray extender.
    3. Squeeze and hold the tab on the top of the paper-width guide, then slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position. Figure 2: Sliding the paper-width guide to the outermost position c00315284.gif
    4. Tap a stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges, and then check the paper for the following:
      • Make sure it is free of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges.
      • Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type.
    5. Insert the stack of paper into the paper tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops. NOTE: If using letterhead, insert the top of the page first with the print side down. For more help on loading full-size paper and letterhead, refer to the diagram engraved in the base of the paper tray. Figure 3: Inserting paper into the all-in-one c00315285.gif Squeeze and hold the tab on the top of the paper-width guide, then slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper. Figure 4: Sliding the paper-width guide to the edge of the paper c00315286.gif Do not overload the paper tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within the paper tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
Step two: Load the original NOTE: Many of the special copying features will not work correctly if the glass and lid backing are not clean.
    1. Lift the lid and place the original face down on the left front corner of the glass, with the sides of the original touching the left and bottom edges. NOTE: For more help on loading an original, refer to the guide engraved under the glass.
    2. Close the lid.
Step three: Scan to an application NOTE: To use this feature, you must have installed the full software package and the HP Digital Imaging Monitor must be running.
    1. Press Scan on the control panel. A preview image of the scan displays in the HP Document Viewer window on the computer, where you can edit it.
    2. Click Done or Finish in the software. The HP All-in-One sends the scan to the HP Image Zone software, which automatically opens and displays the image.
NOTE: To stop scanning, press the Cancel button on the control panel, or in the HP Image Zone software, click Cancel . Have a good day,

Scanner cuts off the top 1/4 inch every time I scan.

This sounds like a setting in your software.  Perhaps making sure that you're scanning the right size paper.  Also, look on the printer to see if there's a setting to choose the right size paper.
