Unit does not respond to remote control

It appears as if Onkyo TX-DS575 infrared receiver does not function. I tried new batteries in the remote. The stand-by light does not respond as I believe it used to. The remote works on other components such as the DVD player and the cable box as I programmed the macros in the remote. So it would appear as if I need a new IR sensor in the unit. I would appreciate any help in diagnosing other problems which may mimic this situation. I would also appreciate any help in describing the procedure in going about replacing the IR sensor ie part #, pitfalls, tools needed.

I had this same problem with the Onkyo TX-SR706 this evening, and finally found the solution in the "Controlling Other Components" section of the manual: Resetting the remote control did the trick. (P.S. This problem started after I spent many hours today trying to get my new Acer laptop equipped with a Hauppauge TV tuner stick to correctly display its image on my Samsung HDTV, with sound. I tried connecting the laptop via HDMI first to the Onkyo receiver and then directly to the TV, neither of which worked as it should. I assume that somehow, in all those hours of much plugging and unplugging and fiddling around, I screwed up the remote sensor -- thank goodness I eventually found the "Resetting the Remote Controller" solution a little while ago -- I was approaching the point of ripping everything apart and throwing it out the window!)

Pull the batteries out from the remote control, and leave it out until step-4
Press and release each and every button, one at a time on the remote control, until every button has been pressed and released at least once.
If the remote control have slide switches; move the switch to each position, then repeat the button pushing as in step-2. {When you've done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with.}
Put the batteries back.
Try the remote.

Amazon.com, MyRemoteControls.com, and Remotes.com all sell a replacement remote for the TX-DS575. I have also seen the Onkyo TS-DS575 receiver with remote listed on eBay for as low as $35. Keep looking; the remotes are out there.

Hi. my original remote for my onkyo tx ds575 all of a sudden is not working anymore. the red light on the remore still lights up when i press a button but the receiver is not picking it up. hopefully you...

The red light on the remote just means the battery is good and the remote is responding when you press a button. It doesn't mean the control is actually sending out a signal. Many retail stores have a tester that will tell you if the remote is transmitting. Another possibility is that the remote sensor in the receiver has gone bad, and that the remote is fine. A universal remote (One-4-All URC6131, for example) that can work home theater receivers can be used to test the receiver. It may not work all the functions, but if it turns the receiver on and off you'll know the remote is at fault and not the receiver. Then you'll be able to replace the remote or have the receiver serviced as needed.

See the manual you can download on this site on page 39
1. Open the battery cover and remove the batteries.
2. While pressing and holding down the ON button and the
STNBY button, insert the batteries in the correct direction.
After inserting the batteries, release the buttons. The SEND/
LEARN indicator flashes slowly.
3. Press the ENT button.
The SEND/LEARN indicator lights up for about ten seconds,
then turns off. All programmed codes are erased and the button
memories return to the factory presets

I need the remote code for my onkyo tx-ds575, my remote isn't working and i want to program another remote to control this unit.

Get yourself a remote from Logitech Harmony family. It magically knows all the possible codes. And the support is VERY helpfull.
