The sun symbol is heating, an icicle is cooling, the fan symbol means fan only. A triangle means auto mode, the machine will heat or cool to get the temperature you have selected. Looking at your remote, it is set on 16 degrees cooling. The large fan symbol will mean its on high fan speed.
Press the 'mode' button on your remote until it says 'cool' or shows a snowflake symbol. Careful that you don't set it to 'heat' mode accidentally if it only has symbols. The 'sun' (heat) mode symbol can look like a snowflake on some of these remotes. Then set the temperature to suit you.
In your remote, there is mode button, the symbols for each option will display. The symbols are:
"
Now symbols: 1. fan leaves - Fan only 2. Rain drop- Dry mode 3. Snow flake-Cool mode 4. Sun- Heat 5. A or AU- Auto mode.To get proper cold air set temp 23 degree and mode"cool". To get heat set temp minimum 3 degree more than room temp and mode in "Heat"
Symbols: 1. fan leaves - Fan only 2. Rain drop- Dry mode 3. Snow flake-Cool mode 4. Sun- Heat 5. A or AU- Auto mode.
L-means fan speed low
M-means fan speed of med
H-means fan speed of high.
To get proper cool, mode "cool" and less 3 degree minimum than your room temp.
To get proper Heat mode "Heat" and 3 degree more than room temp.
Hope, helpful

Page 6 of this pdf has more of the basic instructions.
The order of the symbols on the left hand window mean:
(6 sided circle)Cool, (Raindrop)Dry, ((Arrows in square)Auto, (Fan)Fan,(Sun) Heat.
Ok the snowflake means that the unit is cooling. The sun means that the unit is heating, the raindrop means that the unit is dehumidifying, the fan means that the unit is using the fan only as ventilation without cooling or heating and the funny triangle looking thing is auto mode where the unit sets the mode automatically. The little bar in the middle displays fan speed and the two little arrow things next to it means that the fan is in auto mode where it sets the speed automatically. There I hope that that helps.
