Solved by accident - pushed buttons in a semi-considered way.

How to I stop my sharp EL-531X calculator from rounding when converting from decimal to scientific notation?

You need to select the number of decimal places you would like, or if you would like the calculator to behave as normal. Press SET UP and select FSE (press 1) . You now have 5 options.
0: FIX means you can choose a fixed number of decimal places for every calculation.
1: SCI means scientific notation and choose the number of significant values you would like to deal with.
2: ENG means engineering and the power goes up in multiples of 3.
3: NORM1 and 4: NORM2 are the usual or normal settings on the calculator. Most school calculations will use NORM1 mode.

I want to set the decimal place without using the decimal key--example: hit the 1234 keys and the shows $12.34

You can select the A (K . A) and then the # of decimal places (F 6 3 2 1 0) you want. So if you want to enter 1234 & it calculates 12.34, this will work.

Sharp EL- M332 caluclator- have a 'O' along top line- can't seem to get rid of it- must have accidentally selected something. It is not showing any decimals.

Hold (C.CE) then whilst holding it press (M+) for approximately a second and it will move one place along in the three settings (F, 2 and 0) F shows full decimals, 2 shows 2 decimal places and 0 as yours is set to now round to the nearest whole number. I have just been sat at my desk trying to work this out as my calculator was too set to '0'. Took me reading the 'DEC DET' text with lines pointing at 'M+' and 'C.CE' to finally crack it!

Hope this helps.

How do you change the number of decimal places?

• Press [2nd] [MODE] and scroll to FLOAT.
• Press the right arrow key until the number of decimal places needed is highlighted.
• Press the [ENTER] key.

For 2 decimal places, 2 should be highlighted. All answers will then be rounded to 2 decimal places.

• Press [2nd] [QUIT] to return to the home screen.
