How to fix it myself?
Drive Motor Tachometer Error
The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.
open the machine and use a dry paint brush
give the motor a good clear off of the carbon dust spent from the brushes
you should while your there take the brushes out and check there condition is ok
they should be long ie longer than 1/2"
if not replace them
as your getting issues i would replace them
and dont forget to brush off the bad carbon dust
it gets everywhere leading to motor issues
as most sensors are low voltage leakage of current accross the dust can upset low voltage stuff easy
and also leed too your homes mains tripping etc
just from dust
i find most often brushes have some life left
but treat it too a new set
as its a bit upset by the old ones anyway
perhaps they have delaminated also

Hi,
Appreciate the "Ask Me".
My compliments that you have determined that error code F06 indicates drive motor tach error. This relates to the controller board not sensing that the motor is spinning. This could be attributed to three (3) possibilities:
In some instances, it could just be the motor's capacitor that is defective. The capacitor provides the initial kick for the motor to start running. Failure on the capacitor will not kick start hence motor will not start hence RPM sensor says to controller board motor not running.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

"F06" is a motor speed error. The following link explains:

The link provided will give you the necessary steps to diagnose the problem yourself (yes, this a DIY project). All you need is a simple multimeter. I would begin by checking all the wiring to ensure you have nothing loose or broken. Then, I would recommend checking the motor windings. This would potentially rule out the first two possibilities by confirming whether or not the motor and wiring harness are good. That would leave the Motor Control Unit to troubleshoot. More commonly, the MCU fails causing this error. I'm not saying this is your problem, however. You will need to follow the steps provided to rule out all possibilities.
I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.
PS If you do require parts. You can order on line at searspartsdirect.com. Repairclininc.com also carries parts for your washer if you would like to do some comparative shopping. There are other web sources out there, but I have found that these two have good service and are usually the lowest priced.

Here is what the manufacture says about F06 - my comments will follow these.
DRIVE MOTOR TACHOMETER ERROR
The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and
the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during
high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after three
minutes.
Possible Causes / Procedure
1. Verify the shipping system including shipping bolts,
spacers and cables are removed.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections between the drive
motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between
the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
5. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive
motor.
6. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.
Phil's comments--->
If you just set the machine up be sure the shipping bolts have been removed, this is the most common reason for F06.
Other than that there is some type of communication error between the three main components (motor, Motor Control Unit and Central Control Unit) or the wire connectors between the three.
If you have had the unit a while and it is not related to the shipping bolts I would recommend calling Whirlpool
