Have tried Canon support by phone, who sent me instructions to download an MP driver.Said printer installed but won't print.i get "incompatible application!
Hi
I am fairly sure the procedure below will work but before you do this go to "Devices & Printers". Are there several installations of printers there? If so, make sure the latest MP installation is the one with the green tick against it indicating its the default printer and try printing again. If no luck try below.
I have found 2 drivers on the Canon site here:
Canon PIXMA MP170
If you click Windows 7 on the Operating System drop down menu, you get 6 files. Numbers 4 & 5 are for Win7 64 & 32 bit respectively. Make sure which version of Win7 you are using (Start button, right click Computer, click Properties and it will tell you under System) and download and save the appropriate file, do not install yet.
Disconnect printer and delete all references to the printer in the "devices & printers". Reboot. On completion of reboot use the file you downloaded to install the drivers. When requested reconnect the printer and continue the installation to the end. At the end of installation make sure there is a green tick against the printer, indicating it is the default and start printing.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers
You need to remove all drivers and install the new driver by itself. and if that does not get it go to the troublshoot section and let it run a diagnostic and use the option that it gives you
Testimonial: "Thank you Mike for your answer. It was very helpful. However, it got stuck at uninstalling old drivers. I un installed the driver for my printer and followed your directions again and it has worked. Thank you so much I had been trying for days!!"
