How do I fix this: A friend installed this stereo in my car. I can program radio stations on the push buttons along the bottom of the unit and they stay programmed, but when I program settings into the stereo - such as turn off demo mode, equalizer settings, etc., they do not stay set when I turn the car off. I'm having to re-program them each time. I'm wondering if this is an installation problem or a problem with the stereo. My friend did say when he installed the stereo that the previous stereo had been "hard wired" in and so he had to install this the same way.

enter the code slowly and push the button for the next station
Depending on the make and model of the radio you input the code using 1-4 buttons then enter it by pressing 5
once you have the station you want to listen to on the radio press and hold one of the buttons along the bottom of the stereos face for a few seconds the screen should flash for a second or two or it should beep as well to indicate its saved it.
if when you turn the ignition off and then turn it back on the stereo has forgotten the station you programmed you need to remove the stereo from the car and check the wiring at the back of the unit. most of them have a red and yellow wire that are joined by metal push fit connectors, swap these two over and it will then remember the station for you.
the red wire is the switched power lead from the ignition and the yellow lead is a constant live feed for it to remember your settings, if these are round the wrong way it will keep forgetting radio stations you program until you switch them over.
On the face of the stereo is a * button. Push this button then use the numbers on the face of the stereo to go directly to that station. Example, my favorite classical station is 90.7. Push the * then 907. This station will appear in display. Then push and hold for about 5 seconds the preset button you would like this station to be. The stereo will momentarily blink to a different station then come back. Station set.
You will need is the information from the label that is
located on the top of the radio. To remove the radio is really quite
easy.
1. Gently pry the trim plate from around the radio. This can be
accomplished by taking a flat blade screwdriver and carefully prying up
and out at one of the bottom corners. Once you see it pop out, repeat
this on the other bottom corner. The bottom will be out and you can
then pull the top away from the dash to remove it. There are two small
plastic tabs on the bottom of the bezel, and two metal clips on the top
that secure the trim to the dash. Very easy to do.
2. Once the trim is off you will see 4 phillips head screws
that attach the radio to the dash. Remove them one at a time (be
careful not to drop them into the dash like I do every time I do this
LOL). Once the 4 screws are removed simply pull the radio towards you
out of the dash. You do not have to remove it completely to see the
tag, it is located on the top of the radio on the drivers side.
3. Write down the numbers on the tag. One is the model number
that is in bolder lettering that starts with either an MR or MB. The
other is the serial number.
4. Call practically any Mitsubishi dealership and ask for the
service department. Tell them you are looking for a code for your
radio. They will more than likely just need the serial number and
within seconds will give you the code for it. This way you also don't have to take it in and have them charge you for "fixing the radio".
Once you have the code, reinstall the radio, turn the key on, turn the
power on to the radio and enter the code pushing the #1 station button
until you get the first digit, then the #2 station button until you get
the 2nd, the #3 station button until you get the 3rd, then the #4
button until you get the 4th.
The next step depends on your radio. Once you have the code
showing on the radio you will either have to push the "program" button
to enter it, or the "Cassette" button to enter it.
You will have 3 chances to do it right, and if you fail and the
radio says "lock" on the display do not panic. All you will need to do
is leave the key on for one hour or so, and the "lock" will dissapear,
and "code" will return.
FixYa,
I went back to "Best Buy" installers and they quickley pointed out that I had pressed the scan button, and that it was still activated.
I pushed the scan button again, that turned it off, and the new sirrius satellite radio is now working perfectally.
"Thanks"
Jack
Try this for the tuner fix. Turn unit on.Hold down (volume down and SRC )buttons and unit will power off.Keeping them in also press and then release the reset button(bottom right hand side) .Release the other 2 buttons and unit should now restart with 50khz fm spacing and 9khz am spacing. If you find out how to change region code,Post It
This is a USA model and by default in the USA all FM stations end in an Odd number. This is completely normal. you can try holding preset 1 and 5 down while pressing the reset button on the unit and it may allow you to switch to a Europe style of tuning.
What make and model is "this stereo"?
