That actually happened to a tv of mine once-i had some clear diet soda get spilled on front, I didn't clean it out(just off of screen) and I corroded the contacts on the lcd itself. if it is a recent problem get it cleaned/clean it yourself as soon as possible to prevent damage to screens connections. hope this was helpful, good luck. Sounds like the tcon (timing control) board. Sometimes unplugging the LVDS cables from the tcon, cleaning and reconnecting solves this. The catches on the LVDS cables are easily damaged and must be handled carefully.

I am having the same problem with my newish Sony Bravia. There is only a black screen when I use the "GUIDE" button. And individual channels show "No program description".

as to cleaning on the back with the air louvers take a canister vacum with the brush attachment and make sure set is off and run the brush over the louvers to extract the dust
as to cabinet a damp micro fiber cloth not wet but just damp
and for the screen they have special wipes in a soloution at the at your dept stores for cleaning that part

its a dead pixel. its not fixable, and deos not even qualify as a defect as its just one.
