Dark outline of Programme information banner at top of Screen fails to clear except on rare occasions.

I am not familiar with this but I presume you refer to a portable type car unit which I see on the web.
Is this line a twinkle type line or a clean dark line?
Both will tend to be a player fault which may not be able to be fixed (in todays chuck it out world).
If its a solid clean dark line then this may be a display screen fault which laptops etc can get, the only cure change its display panel (often pricey so not worth it)
Then again if this a twinkle white type line, to me this a component failure (capacitor) which there many inside whose job is to remove noises. A service is required if possible with that company (could be costly if an older unit) or sadly "live with it" as it mostly will only spoil enjoyment rather than create a serious issue.
It can be on a disc but I presume you have tried others anyway (rare anyway, except if you record your own discs then it can be your recorder putting it on) again rare.

I would take it in and have it devices professionally. It may just be dusty inside, however having a pro do it is best. Use warranty if applicable.

Still not clear, what you mean. But take care wham cleaning a lens. Never use a fluid like alcohol. Use a special lens pen or the soft brush on the other side of a lens pen, when you think the lens is dirty. Spots, or disk, also can appear when light is entering the lens from an angle. Even the expensive Fuji X10, had orbs or disks on the pictures in certain situations. Like dark with one or a few sharp lights close bye. Try the camera in different situations, to make sure the phenomena is in the camera or just a strange rare occasion.
When it is caused by a defect in the camera, it should show on every picture.

By go dark do you mean it turns off? If not, LED lights on the front of the laptop continue to stay on, but the screen goes dark, this could mean the backlight of the screen is going bad. It might be intermittent, but, a screen consists of two elements, the display itself, and the backlight which is what makes the image bright. If you bring it into a well lit area when it is dark and tilt the screen back and forth, you might see the faint image on the screen. Sadly, screen repairs are expensive, easily exceeding $300 most of the time. It is often a better idea to replace it rather than repair it.

I would say you either have a damaged inverter board or screen baclight lamp. Usually the inverter board fails in one of the following ways:

1. When you turn on the laptop, the screen lights up for a short period of time and then goes dark. You still can see an image but it is very dark, almost invisible and definitely not usable. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up and then goes dark again. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
2. Your laptop turns on but the screen remains dark all the time. You still can see a very dim image outline. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
3. The laptop screen works fine for hours or even days, but sometimes it goes very dark as it mentioned above. When you restart the laptop, the screen works fine again.

Inverter failure symptoms are very similar to backlight lamp failure symptoms and in most cases you cannot tell which one is causing the problem until you replace either the inverter board or the backlight lamp. From my personal experience, inverter boards fail more often than backlight lamps. If you have to guess, replace the inverter first.

Do you mean there is a dark grey outline when using it in 16x9 mode? This happens with my projector too. Try using dark (or black) masking around the screen.

I'm unfamiliar with the F80 but on models like the f65 and f75 the viewfinder screen has an lcd overlay and when the battery is exhausted or removed the viewfinder goes dark and blurry.

Looking at a picture of the f80 it looks like it's just an update on my f75 so it strongly suggests that you just need to insert a fresh battery. The lcd does draw power from the battery even with the camera turned off.
