Overheating/burnt rubber smell

I have a Kenmore 90 series electric dryer (model 68932792). We are smelling a "burning rubber" smell, and it seems to be overheating. After it cools down for 30 - 45 minutes, it will restart. But only to overheat and smell again. Hubsband checked belt (because of the burnt rubber smell) and it seemed fine, also vacuumed out lint while he had it open. When its on, it dries, but seems to be hotter than normal. High heat hasn't worked in a while. Any ideas?

Classical sign of a bad motor. the motor has a thermal switch on it telling the unit to shut off when it gets hot. after it cools down, the switch will tell the motor to turn back on again. good luck, i'm pretty sure that's your problem. contact me for further help if needed. thanks :)

Burning smell Kenmore 50558

If the burning smell is an electrical smell it could be motor or wiring problems which are best handled by a professional. If it smells like burning rubber it is probably the belt. If it smells like burnt wood it could be the belt slipping on the brush roll, if the brush roll is made of wood. Dust and debris can also accumulate behind the end caps of the brush roll causing friction which can cause a burning wood smell.

My kenmore 90 series dryier is giving off a smell of burning rubber and is very noisy

Bearings are going out on the motor that turns your dryer. The burning smell is possibly the lubrication leaking into the hot motor.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 110.86980800 burning smell

If this is a new element, this is normal until it has been used a few cycles. Use it and watch it carefully for a while. If it continues have a competent person to take the rear panel off and check for burnt wires or lint inside the unit.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 Model

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

Kenmore 90 electric dryer drum does not turn

Yes it should turn by hand and may be easier one direction than the other. It could be as simple as something stuck in the blower preventing the fan from turning. This also stops the motor from turning. Worst case is a froze bearing on the motor but I would pull the fan cover off and see what is in there.
Eric

Let me know what you find as I have found some very interesting things in the fan over the years....

Kenmore dryer 90 series model 66901692

heating element is located at the back of the dryer. if you can see a big coil of wires like a long spring laid back and fort to a duct , that is the heating element.
