When I don't use my Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D for a few days and try to use it again, I face this weird problem. The camera start normally, but when I press the shutter button, the shutter closes but never fully opens and it seems the shutter only opens to the aperture that was set before shooting the picture. I say, it seems because, if I press the DOF button, I see similar darkness on the shutter, and this is clearly perceptible with a large f-number.
Also, the picture does get recorded but it is completely dark. The camera looses power and I cannot shoot any more. I have to switch the camera off and on and then the entire process repeats itself. I have to try several times (tens of times) and if I am lucky, the camera starts shooting normally. Once the camera starts shooting normally, I seldom see this problem again; with the exception of one occurrence, this problem appears, very consistently, when the camera has gone through several days of inactivity. I have tried several combinations of shocking the camera (by keeping the shutter pressed while switching the camera on/off, pulling out and putting in the battery, etc. but nothing seems to help with any certainty.
Could not find anything on this and the camera does have the latest driver (1.10u). I don't have any certified camera repair shops as well. Any suggestion of repair shops would also be helpful.
This is a known design defect in the cameras and Sony is repairing them, even if your warranty is expired.
