I tried to go online to see if I could find a driver for it by searching the model number I bought it online from Mambate, a company that sells through BestBuy

BD-P1000 Update Solution
The solution that worked for me: I went to www.samsung.com/ca and downloaded the Samsung BD-P1000 player's firmware update to my desktop. When opened, I was directed to"burn" a DVD on my computer. I then inserted the new DVD in my Blu-Ray player. The player automatically checked and confirmed player model number and registration and uploaded information from the DVD and the update was complete. The BD-P1000 then flawlessly played the rented Blu-Ray disc of "The Scorpion King".
Thank You Samsung!
SOURCE: Unit plays DVD but no longer Blu Rays
That is because of a dirty or defective lens. When lens is dirty, the unit may still operate on regular CDs and DVDs and not be reading BD.
Try first using a lens cleaner for Blue Ray:
Maxell 190054 Blu-Ray Lens Cleaner
If that does not work, the unit may be disassembled, and lense cleaned
with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

Being this a blue ray unit , I would suggest calling support instead of disassembling the unit by yourself.

possibly because the regions are different to dvd than blu ray, there are 8-9 for Dvd and 3 for blu ray.
SOURCE: I recently purchased a Blu-Ray Disc Player from
I had the same problem with the blu-ray player and fixed it with the downloaded files. When you download the files they come in a folder called 'firmware_update'. Did you make sure you only put the 16 files that are inside this folder onto the CD and not the whole folder? It won't work if you add the whole folder. The update on the blue-ray player takes up to 15 minutes. You have to be patient.
Hope this helps:-)
SOURCE: My Blu-ray keeps saying no disc.
This can be caused by a number of different things, some simple ones are:
- Unplug for 5 minutes then replug, this will reset the processor and it may smarten up (just like rebooting a computer)
- Take the unit apart and using a Q-tip and lens cleaner gently clean off the lens of the laser...only do this is you feel comfortable. If there is a hair or obstruction on the lens it will not read discs. If it is still under warranty, send it in first before you take it apart, it may void warranty.
- If the above two do not work then the transport mechanism may be defective and the repair would be around 100 -150 dollars, which is probably not worth repairing and it is best to look at a replacement machine.
Hope this helps!
