You have to go into your menu and turn the dv setting to off. This setting as it is now thinks you have an external device connected via the firewire (like a hard drive FS100) so, go into the recording settings on the menu, scroll down to 1394 or dv and turn this setting off.

If the battery is charged, and the power is on, it may be jammed and in need of cleaning. If that is all normal the motor for the tape door may be damaged or has died. Insure tape position is correct and only push where marked.
Pretty easy, connect it to the xlr connector (hope your lav do have xlr connector) then swith the external mic switch on, phantom power switch to on, and front switch to mic (not line) and ajust the level.
Please get your microphone tested, also, you can try testing the recording using external microphone. It seems that the problem is with microphone contacts or internal loose connections.
Seem to be a minor one, hope it will be resolved with above methods.
I had the same problem but lucky for me my camera was still under warranty. After sending it for repairs and to my amazement, panasonic replaced my LCD and LENS (what?) and it worked fine. They did mention about a manual reset. Not the button thing you press. I was bewildered but happy the audio levels are working. But soon after then, I found out I couldn't capture my old tapes that i previously recorded!
Since it doesnt sound like you have a special external firewire hdd recorder that can direct connect to the camera, you gotta capture it with your pc and send it to your hdd after. Watch out that most of those hdd are set (partitionned) as they cant transfer file bigger than 4.xx gig... (You can usually set file recording from your pro capture software that built multiple file no more bigger than 4 gig per file...
