This happened to me too what you need to do is go on the buttons and press them until you find the language on the settings and you will look for English and English will not be spelled in Japanese

with the switch in vcr camera or memory, hit setup menu, scroll to language 2 items down, and select english

My research shows that model is only for sale only in Asia, I looked into some similar USA released models and they did NOT have multiple language support so I am thinking that the DCR-TRV9 is only in Japanese.

Yes, but you have to read the Japanese to get back to English. I suggest using Google Translate to read the Japanese. Go to the Google page and select "more" and then select "Translate".

1.Open kernel.nb0 file
2.Go to offset 0x1012 and u find 0x09 (english) change it to 0x0C (japanese).
3.Now when you flash the english rom will not say anymore that invalid language it will see it as a japanese rom
4.After flash the pocket pc it will reset , and the english rom it will start You still have the old japanese bootloader

Download the driver from the site then in the help menu go to the language setup. You might have to guess your way around in this but refer to Panasonics other insturuction manuals you should know when you scroll to the english section. Also refered to as nv-gs50e or nv-gs70e. Go to http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Drivers-and-Downloads/list-75489-Camcorders#Anchor_13 it will be the third driver from the BOTTOM. This model has been discontinued so support for later windows editions are not likely. Windows 2000 is the last version you can always run your compatabilty mode with 2000 for optimum preformance.
