Have you tried to plug it directly into the wall Maybe the the power strip you are using is not able to handle the amps needed to run air cond. If thats not it you have a short to ground that needs to be checked out.
You should be able to get this item at most hardware stores they are very generic. just take or draw a picture of the plug end there are only about 3 styles
