Check under lip of washer or around outside of tub. A garment may be in the void between tub and basket. It won't always slow down spin cycle as it may roll around when spin cycle is on but occasionally it will ball up and jam between the basket and tub thus decreasing the spin speed. Socks are a common problem and if you are sometimes whiffing a foul water smell that is the article of wet clothing that has remained wet for some time.

SOURCE: washer doesn,t spin

two possibles here, if the drain pump is clogged and therefore the unit will not go into a spin. After pumping, it will error out and just shut off. If the pump is ok, then the motor control unit has failed.

SOURCE: maytag atlantis will agitate won't spin

I had the same problem with my Atlantis a couple of months ago. It turned out to be the bearing for the tub drive pulley. When you look under the washer there are three pulleys. The one for the motor is ont he left, the drain pulley on the right and the big one in the middle for the tub. What I found is that when the bearing went bad, the tub would fill and turn for washing, but it would not turn at all for spinning. I could turn the pulley by hand but the tub refused to budge. I removed the main pulley and could see that the bearing had exploded. You can't buy just the bearing but the whole pulley kit is like $35 so I got off easy. I put the machine back together (which is tricky) but it works fine now. The pulley kit comes with complete instructions but it's really straightforward. The tricky part is that you have to pull down on the end of the drive shaft in order to get the retainer ring onto the pulley. That can be difficult if you don't have a lot of room to work or have a partner to assist. You can replace the whole thing or just the bearing and save the pulley for a rainy day if you want. I opted for the whole replacement. But I saved the old. cause ya neva know!

SOURCE: spin cycle leaves clothes very wet

The clothes are wet after spinning When the clothes are wet at the end of a cycle, check these:

Motor coupler
Spin cycle
Siphoning
Water-inlet valve
Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning:

  • If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine.

  • If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool®--you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely.

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.

Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess.

Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

SOURCE: Washer leaves the clothes very wet. Drain has been

What you have is a broken drive coupling. When the washer goes into spin the pump does its thing but the tub does not because the drive coupling is broken.

My maytag atlantis cycles but wont spin out. It spins slowly then shuts off but leaves wet clothes and water in tub.

First determine whether all the water is pumping out before it goes into spin. If not, check the pump and drain. If its not spinning fast enough with an empty tub check that there isnt any article of clothing caught between the inner and outer tubs or tub top ring. If thats ok check the clutch by turning the main drive pulley CCW. Substantial drag should be felt before the basket overcomes momentum and begins to turn. There is no repair for the clutch on this machine. The transmission must be replaced.

The agitator spins, and water drains but the clothes are still sopping wet. This is a new issue.

Have you inspected the drive belt?. check the drive belt wich also move the pump. if is good check the motor at the base to see if you can adjust it for tension.

I have a magic chef 20 lb capacity heavy duty washer model W20HN3S serial ME851474 with spin problems. Clothes come out soaking wet. Can I replace a belt?

If your washer will wash (agitate) your clothes but does not spin well, you will need to replace the "thrust bearing" in the washer. The repair is simple and will only take you a short to do. Here is a link to the "thrust bearing kit" you will need.

Maytag washing machine #mav6260aw

I found the crazy sound where comes from, it was an aluminum ring in the drain pump.
First of all, I took out the belt under the bottom, checked moter to run itself, it was fine, so, I suspected some waste in somewhere, it was lucky I disassembled the drain pump first, no waste in the drain pump, but I saw a ring that was cut under the pump (seems should be connected), when I try to spin the pump wheel by hand it is broken because of the ring.
I ordered the entire drain pump on the website, the cost $74 + delivery fee, I recognized Maytag re-designed the drain pump due to the ring ( new pump does not have the ring anymore). Now the washer works fine like new.
