How to assemble a clutch on a 1981 suzuki motor cycle

This is a fairly easy job, but make sure the clutch is actually bad and not just mis-adjusted. Suggest you at some of the YouTube videos to get a general sense on what is involved in replacing a motorcycle clutch. If you're still unsure you can purchase an old repair manual on amazon, half.com or ebay. The hard part is usually finding the older clutch parts and seals. You can probably use a tube of automotive Silicon to make your own gaskets. As your disassemble the bike, I highly suggest you lay the parts out in order as you remove them, and maybe even take a few pictures or video along the way. This will make it a lot easier to re-assemble things in the right order. Pay particular attention when disassembling the clutch basket. Make sure your soak the replacement clutch parts in the correct weight oil before installing them. This should be listed in the owners manual, or a repair manual. Sometimes the owners manual is stored under the seat.

How to remove the starter clutch housing (Original part number is 212131 in the Illustrated Parts List online at briggsandstratton.com.) from the vertical crankshaft of a Briggs and Stratton engine, Model...

Brace the mower blade against the housing of the mower with a block of wood, so that the blade cannot turn.
Using a Strapwrench, a chainwrench, or a pipewrench, secure the lowet part of the starter clutch assembly in the wernch and turn it counter clockwise, looking down at the top of the engine.

I need a list and pictures of the parts to idenyify the faulty ones as the clutch assembly may be the problem.

If the chain doesn't move when the engine speeds up, try washing out the clutch interior with spray carburetor cleaner, let dry, then attempt cutting. If the chain now turns, ok. Good luck!

Kenmore washing machine agitates but does not spin

This problem is commonly attributed to either a worn clutch assembly or basket drive. The cheaper option (and less maintenance intensive) would be to replace your clutch first to see if the problem goes away. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4249301-replacing_clutch_whirlpool_top_loader

This can appear to be a rather lengthly process, but it is a simple and inexpensive repair if you follow the steps provided.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

Just type in your model number and look under the "Brake, Clutch, Gearcase, Motor and Pump" heading. All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing. The first three sites I listed also inlcude helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need.

The part number for the entire clutch assembly is 8299642. If you wish to save a little money can order just the band and tension spring replacment kit (part #3951993. These are listed as items 5 and 6, repectively, in the parts drawing.

If this fails to correct your problem, you may have to replace the Basket Drive assembly. This repair is a bit more expensive and requires some extensive labor, but can be accomplished if it comes to that.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hop this helps you.

How to put in a clutch

It always makes good sense to mark parts before disassembling them. Clutch parts are balanced at the factory while on the engine. If the clutch cover is to be used again, it should be replaced in its original position. Make a centerpunch mark on the flywheel and on the clutch.
CAUTION
Use a HEPA vacuum to vacuum any asbestos dust from the assembly before disassembling it. Asbestos fibers can pass through a regular vacuum bag.
Use an aligning arbor to hold the disc while removing the clutch cover.
f63-11.jpg Use an aligning arbor to hold the disc while removing the clutch cover. This will prevent it from falling accidentally. Unbolt the pressure plate bolts evenly to prevent bending the plate when the last bolt is removed. Carefully remove the assembly. Be careful not to drop the parts; they are heavy.
Inspect the clutch parts for damage. You will want to determine the cause before replacing the parts. A repeat failure must be avoided.
Use hot soapy water, brake parts cleaner, or alcohol to clean off any grease from clutch parts. Metal surfaces can be deglazed with sandpaper.
CAUTION
Do not wash clutch parts in solvent. Solvent contains oil that will be absorbed into the friction surfaces of the metal.
A clutch cover assembly is usually replaced when a disc is worn. If it is unworn, it may be reused. If you choose to reuse a clutch cover that appears to be in good condition, inspect the pressure plate to see that it is flat.
To replace the clutch assembly:
  • Install the clutch cover.
  • Install the clutch disc.
  • Attach the disc and clutch cover to the flywheel.
  • Align the punch marks on the flywheel and clutch cover if the parts are being reused.
  • Align the clutch disc.
