This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Red light blinks 4 times

That sounds like a fault code coming from your Plasma. Some of them have alarms that go off when say it's overheating, Fans don't turn, the panel has sensed a crack in it. These are random as I don't have the fault code for that particular model. There is a reset sequence of buttons while you turn it on to reset the alarm. I would contact the manufacturer. to see what those fault codes mean. If something minor you can do the reset alarm and watch for a short 2-3 hrs. but will need to be taken in to be serviced. If you can reset it and turns on then you know your power supply is good.

NEC PLASMA SYNC 42MP2 STANDY BY MODE?

According to the manual for "POWER/STANDBY indicator is blinking in red":
  • "The temperature inside the main unit has become too high and has activated the protector."
  • "Promptly switch off the power of the main unit ans wait until the internal temperature drops."
  • "If the monitor becomes too hot, the overheat protector will be activated and the monitor will be turned off. If this happens, turn off the power to the monitor and unplug the power cord. If the room where the monitor is installed is particularly hot, move the monitor to a cooler location and wait for the monitor to cool for 60 minutes."
