Are you sure you're turning it in the proper direction? Nikon lenses (and thus rear lens caps) screw in the "wrong" way. The lens cap turns clockwise to remove.

If it's an ordinary plastic lens cap, as a last resort you could cut it open with a knife.

Rotate it? Use a cloth. Also, look into a strap wrench. It's plumbers tool that can loosen pipes that nothing else has a chance in heck of loosening. Probably $15-20 but worth every penny. It is my favorite plumbing items since contractor never build with repairs in mind so you have to redo all their lazy work from electrical that does not meet code required screw wrapping to plumbing that uses plumber paste when not required because they have no clue on the proper tension for piping (hand tight plus 1/4 turn). The same rule for screws, add 1/4 turn so it will remain tight for years.

It reminds me of the 5 and 5 rules for for recovering from a stalled airplane modern "pilots" are not trained on. %5 more power and 5% more flaps is all it takes to recover from stalled engine since modern jet planes are so sensitive to air speed.

Yeah, I know a lot about too much, screws, airplanes, herbal infusions, etc. but it does not mean I do not know these not connected pieces of information.

Remove stuck rear lens cap

The first thing I would try is using one of those rubber pads that are used for removing stubborn lids from jars. If that dose not work, I would use the fact that the Nikon rear lens caps are made out of soft plastic to my advantage. If you have a Dremel rotary tool with a disk cutting tool, you may be able to CAREFULLY and slowly cut away the lens cap. You didn't say which lens this is, but since with most lenses the telephoto position moves the rear element away from the back of the lens, I would set the lens to telephoto before starting to cut. I would start by cutting through the back of the lens cap. Cut a little at a time and try to take off the cap. Proceed slowly periodically trying to remove the cap. Hopefully, the pressure will be relieved and the cap will release before it becomes necessary to cut across the lens flange. When you are done, I would carefully clear the lens of any debris.

New Camera

Get the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM about $500 and EFS 17-85mm IS USM about $300. The 75-300 all of them I would not use them 4 a body cap. Camera is fine or step up to XSI.

Just bought a new Nikkor 70-200 AF-S VR lens. I CANNOT remove the rear lens cap, nor are there directions for removal in the instruction manual. Is there a secret ?!? Many thanks! (I am feeling...

Did you try twisting the aperature ring to release the lens cap? You can't just pull it off, as the body cap locks on by twisting the aperature ring.

FZ18 Lens Cap error message with telephoto converter

I have the same camera, and had the same problem. Make sure the camera is switched off. Then take 2 hard pieces of plastic with sharp ends. Carefully try & jam the outer ring with one, and try turning the converter with the other. I used a mini screwdriver, and left some marks on my camera. Thats why I recomend using plastic of some kind.
When you use the converter, switch off the battery saver in the camera. That way the converter won't jam again, as the camera won't switch off automatically. There is also a programme in the menu that is used for converters and external lenses. It also prevents the lens from retracting completely.
Hope I have helped you.

Lens canon 28-135 IS

Need to open Lens?

1. Front Lens Cap- press the two side taps in and pull out.
Rear Lens Cap- twist and pull out.

2. Remove and Repair: Small Phillip Screwdrivers, gloves and mask.

From the rear, the electrical contacts- remove all those
screws. Some screws are locked with clue. Pinch black
plastic ring that is part of those contacts and gently remove out.
Don't brake the electrical contact ribbon cable.

Good lock.
