How to Fix Severely Scratched DVD on Win7

Heavily used discs have caused many of the most common DVD player problems, for example, the DVD player reading errors as well as jerky/choppy DVD playback. Take the disc out of the player and visually check if there are any scratches on it, or play the DVD in another DVD player. Before you throw the scratched DVD away and buy a new one, fix the scratched DVD using toothpaste or convert the scratched DVD to digital files to play smoothly on TV/PC.

it may not be your cd or dvd player, it may be that you have a defective disc or scratched so try taking a damp paper towel and wiping it off real good and then take another one and dry it and then try playing it again and if that don't work then it could be something within the player itself. Possibly you tilted or moved the Xbox when a game was running, this will scratch the game beyond repair, or maybe you played the games so long that they were laserburnt, meaning they were burnt from the laser inside of the Xbox that reads it, making they sometimes unplayable, you could try taking the games back to the store and returning them for a new one.

mine did the same thing it just kept ticking when i wanted to play a disk, id take to top off with the four tiny little screws and hoover it, mine still makes a bit of noise but works x

Does any other DVD play? If so, your drivers are fine and the disc may be unreadable due to dirt on the lens, scratched too badly, not in the correct format, etc. Is there any error message? When you put the disc in, does the DVD drive icon change? You can also try putting the DVD in another DVD player to see if it plays in that one.

Your laser lens is going out and needs replacement. Either replace the whole drive (but switch out your old circuit board into the new drive) or buy a new laser and install it in (model number is etched into the bottom of the laser).

You have to switch your old board out of the old drive into the new due to Microsoft having "Keys" locked into each drive so you cant fix your system easily. So remember to keep the boards seperate and switch the old board into the new drive and install the new drice... should fix it nicely.

There are CD / DVD cleaning kits witch will clean the disk surface.

I think that this is the laser unit as I have three of these units and I have swapped everything but the laser unit.
