I've checked the belt and run the spin cycle. Both are fine. When the machine agitates, it stops working. The belt has a lot of tension at this point. I'd like a diagram to so I can check out and replace the agitator if necessary/possible.

stops working?? does it trip shutdown what
your info is far too sparse to make any definitive view
if the belt and rotors gears {egg gear} has failed
you would hear it grinding
so can you hear the motor running
ie youll hear the water circulation motor pump
usually one motor is used for both
if this is the case and the motor runs then its the gear system thats wrong
check the agitator motor start up capacitor hasnt failed
the info you give isnt good enough
Testimonial: "Thanks for attempting to help me solve the problem, Simeon. The machine will agitate for a 3 or 4 minutes while making a loud noise. The belt will then stop moving but the motor will still run (i.e., you can hear it). Of course the noise stops at this point as well because the machine is no longer agitating. What is interesting is that the machine still works normally on the spin cycle (i.e., the belts spins, the motor runs great, and it is quiet). I've done a bit more thinking about the issue since I posted my question. There is an excessive amount of grease on the bottom of the washer (visible when you take the front off). So I'm now thinking that the problem may have to do with the bearings. I can purchase a new transmission and brake assemble, which i think may solve the issue. Any thoughts?"
no worries sounds like youve answred your own question

Thanks for attempting an answer, Simeon. I was hoping to find a diagram so I could try to diagnose and fix the issue. You were taking it one step further. I appreciate it.
The belt stops when the machine is agitating but the motor is still running (i.e., you can hear that it is on). It will agitate for a couple minutes, making a very loud noise, and then stop. However the spin cycle still works (i.e., the belt spins fine and the motor runs great).
I should note that there is a lot of grease on the bottom of the machine. This can't be good! I'm thinking that it may be the bearings. If this is the problem, I can purchase a new Transmission and Brake Assembly, which I think might do the trick. Sound reasonable to you?
