Solid amber light on front amber on mother board
Ok, well this is going to be a multi step troubleshooting.
Also, anytime you are working on the inside of the computer, do unplug the power cord, and wait for the little light you see on the motherboard to go out (little amber light).
Since you are getting an amber light, your control switch is connected. This is good.
First, remove the RAM (memory, looks like sticks of gum, pop the 2 levers down to pop them out) set them on the side.
Remove any cards installed (video, sound/audio), set to the side.
Go through the system, and make sure that all the plug in wire are seated correctly (plugged in, and all the way down)
Hook up the power, and turn on, listen for any beeps (wite down the sequence if there are (like 2 long, 1 short etc))).
Then one at a time, reinstall cards (power off, put in video) power on.
Leave the RAM for last.
When you do the RAM, if you have multiple sticks, do one, take it out, do the other, then both.
We are most interested in beep or flash codes (some models will have different lights on the back of the unit.
Once you have gone through doing the step at a time, let me know what the results are, and we'll go from there.
I have seen these where an item might not have been completely seated (plugged in) and give the same thing you are reporting.
But they are extremely limited in thier ability to tell you what the problem is. That's why we have to do a step at a time.
I know it's frustrating, but that's how these beasts can be at times. I go through it every day.
