After I had successfully repaired the lens of my Powershot G7 and the camera was put together, the LCD screen gave only a light plane. No picture and no menu, just before it worked . I thought the main board was the problem and changed it to the mainboard of another working G7 , but still a light curtain. After the original mainboard had placed back in the good working camera showed the same phenomenon to occur , namely, only a backlit LCD . Now I have two G7 same problem. What happened or what am I doing wrong . I hope someone can help me Tony

When you say the shutter is open, you can see the purple glass lens from the front?
SOURCE: Black LCD screen everytime i turn my camera on
I have the same problem and i have contacted the Canon company and i am currentley waiting for a reply for them. I dont know how many peopled read this all that often, but i just thought i would ask a few questions for those who have been working on this problem of a while. From what i hear there is a recall on the CCD chip...true? Also, i was wondering if it is under a recall, replaced for free? and if not under the warrenty, would they replace is granted i did not do anything to it?
SOURCE: Blank black screen for my canon powershot S1 IS digital camera
This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.
SOURCE: No display powershot a75
Did you get a solution to your problem? I am experiencing the exact same thing with my A75. Still takes pictures and displays them for the 2 second preview, then back to black. And they download fine, too. But I get the same black screen in every mode except stitch assist and movie mode. Thanks.
