Re: my Samsung r730 has a hdmi port can I plug my ps3...
You might be able to do the same thing with Plex Media Server, it's free and works over wifi. Generally laptop HDMI ports are two way, and you determine screens etc through your video settings. Here is a link to Plex for Samsung. Appstore Overview Plex G00002687241 Samsung TV Blu ray Apps

connect one end of the HDMI cable to the samsung TV and other end of the HDMI cable to your Laptop. change the input value to HDMI on your Samsung TV and your laptop screen will appear on your Samsung tv
look along the function keys for one that looks like two squares with a line between them if you have that press it until your display switches to LCD only (if you want to extend choose extend)
if you don't have this then use your external monitor.
now right click on the desktop and go to screen resolution and then change which of the two displays it uses as the default
If you are able to connect your PS3 to another TV using the same HDMI cable that would rule out your PS3, if it works.....or
does the PS3 itself have any settings that perhaps need to be set to an HDMI output as opposed to Composite or SCART etc?
Also have a look at the HDMI settings in theh TV menu too.
The HDMI cable on your laptop is most likely an output. If the computer does not say installing drivers directly after plugging your PS3 into the computer than it is most likely an output. Try using the HDMI from your laptop to your TV to confirm this. If the computer does not say installing device drivers right when you plug your PS3 into it that means it is not recognizing it, most likely because that port is for output.
im having the same problem to fix it i unhook my cable box (the video cables and the hdmi inputs to the tv) this stops the lines--try just the ps3 hooked to the tv and no other devices this should solve the problem--must be getting interference from some device
