When the card worked before, check if you did not switch the lock switch down. And check all contacts on the card and in the camera. They should be clean and shiny.
When you recently bought a new card you could have bough a SDHC card and these won't work in your S800.
The S800 only accepts MMC and SD cards, The SDHC and SDXC cards won't work.
A few years ago you still could buy 4 Gbyte SD cards. Now even most 1 Gbyte and 2 Gbyte cards are already SDHC. SDHC was introduced at least 7 or 8 years ago, so all new devices accept SDHC. The SDXC was introduced at least 4 years ago, so in a couple of years, you perhaps only can buy these cards?
Probably, especially if your card is a 4GB or larger SDHC card, then it's definitely the wrong card. The older Digimax S800 camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less). Fortunately, these are very inexpensive these days, and may be found on Amazon if your local store no longer carries them. For others reading this experiencing similar problems, please see this article.
Remove the memory card from your camera and check for a tiny switch on it. Make sure it is not set to "Lock". If it is, then switch it back to unlock.
However, if your memory card does not have the "Lock Feature" it could mean that your card is already malfunctioning. Try reformatting it first before buying a new one.
Note: You will loose ALL data from your SD card once you format it.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
The Samsung Digimax S800 digital camera is only guaranteed up to 1gb SD cards, meaning you might be able to get away with something larger, but it was only manufactured for up to 1gb. Hope this helps.
