My DVD tray wont open even after pressing the eject button.I used pin to eject it manually and tried it again.Still it doesnt work. There is problem with the ribbon attached to DVD drive as I can see spark coming when it comes out.The system BIOS has got reset once due to the DVD problem. It used to blink with the green light and simply wont open whenever I pressed the eject button. It stopped displaying the green light now after sparks came from ribbon. The OS detects the DVD drive and displays it as working fine. But when I try to eject it from OS it says its busy.I tried putting a working DVD but the DVD drive doesnt read it.Will replacing the ribbon connecting the DVD to CPU solve the problem? Please suggest.
Either it is the ribbon wire, the motor that ejects the tray or the belt that connect the tray and motor is the problem. In case the above three are fine, replace the drive as the sparking might kill your moterboard.
Well if you saw sparks, the computer was either still on or you weren't grounded. Something could have gotten damaged in the process because of the spark.
If your computer detects it and can see it clear, then it's not the ribbon. Something is wrong with the tray itself.
You can try to manually eject the tray by putting a small metal like paper clip on the hole on the lower corner of the eject button
Whether you use your DVD drive to install software, make backups of your personal files or watch movies, having that drive onboard makes your computer more useful and more versatile.
While DVD drives function normally most of the time, sometimes a DVD will become stuck in the drive, and the tray will refuse to open.
Knowing what steps to take to resolve the situation allows you to start enjoying the advantages of the DVD drive again.
Log on to your computer and click the "Start" button. Choose "Shut down" from the menu and then choose "Restart." Wait for the computer to restart, then press the eject button repeatedly.
Remove the DVD if the drive pops out.
Since there is no hole skip this and go to cleaning the lens.
Shine a flashlight on the DVD tray and locate the small hole near the eject button.
This is the bypass hole and it allows you to eject a DVD when it becomes stuck.
Insert an unbent paper clip into the hole and push it in until you hear the DVD begin to spin. Push the paper clip in until the drive pops out.
Remove the DVD and insert another one.
Use the bypass hole again if the new DVD becomes stuck.
If the new DVD sticks as well, you need to clean the laser lens on the DVD drive.
Insert a laser lens cleaning DVD and close the tray.
Run the laser lens cleaning program at least three or four times to make sure the lens receives a thorough cleaning.
Restart your computer and insert a DVD to test the unit.
To unlock, manually press and HOLD the open/close button & the stop button simultaneously, and HOLD them both down until the lock picture disappears. The DVD will eject when you press the open/close button.
To lock the DVD inside the machine, repeat the same step, and it will lock it inside.
