Question about Cameras

Quantaray lenses I have two older Quantaray lenses that work with a Canon Rebel 2000 film camera but don't work with a Canon Rebel XS digital camera. Can they be upgraded? Quantaray 100-300mm telescopic lens and 24mm wide angle lens that are not classified as EF lenses.

I bet they are not AF lenses. There are adapters that add the AF contacts to "fool" the camera but increase the zoom. You can get used lenses from many "on line" camera stores with warranties for a few months.

Quantaray lens

You did not mention which lens. Some Canon digital cameras will only take EFS lens, others take both EF and EFS. Also there are other types of lens mounts made by Canon.

Are older Sigma Quantaray lenses that I used with a 35 mm SLR Canon Rebel 2000EOS compatible with new DSLR Canon bodies?

Yes. Bear in mind that many Canon digital SLRs have a sensor smaller than a frame of 35mm film. This results in the image being cropped, narrowing the field of view and making the lens behave as if it was of a longer focal length.

Will the lenses for a film camera (Canon EOS Rebel) fit a new digital body? Thanks.

Yes the Canon EOS lenses from film bodies will fit and work well on Canon digital bodies.
Depending on the Canon digital body you select the lens may have a 1.6 x factor. Meaning the focal length of the film lens will become a longer focal length. For an example Canon's 50mm f1.8 lens on the APS size digital sensor will translate to an 80mm equivalent. This is great for most people but, getting a good wide angle lens is a bit of a challenge, there has to be a tread off somewhere. There are Canon full frame cameras that this factor doesn't apply, for example a Canon 5D.

Good morning. I have an old Canon WF-M camera with a 28-200mm Quantaray lens. I am thinking about buying a Canon EOS Rebel T1 EF-S. Does the lens work with the digital camera ? Or this just fits the old...

The older lenses will work with the Canon digital cameras, but they will be manual focus and you will need an adapter. The adapters are available at camera shops like B&H. I use some older lenses for macro.

If it's an older lens, for EOS film cameras, Quantaray might upgrade it free - contact your local Ritz Camera store ( it's imported by Ritz ) or find a repair center for Quantaray online.

I have been researching this problem and found there's nothing you can really do. Appararently, the quantaray, being an older lens, wasn't made to work with this latest era of cameras. Though it might work perfectly with your older camera, its technology is outdated as it relates to digital cameras1.gif and can't mesh with the latest and greatest. By the way, most of my questions were answered on the Digital Camera1.gif Resource page (www.dcresource.com
