We basically has a brief power outage and after about 5 seconds, all power in our home was restored. I have this router connected via Ethernet to a single cable modem and only use the router for it's wireless capabilities. After the power came back on, the cable modem seemed to reboot (and it works fine, I have it connected via Ethernet directly to my one pc, a laptop). However, after closer inspection, ONLY the power light on the netgear router comes on. After power cycling it (just unplugged the power cable for about 10 seconds and then back on), the same thing. The router does seem to communicate w/the modem briefly, as all the lights come on for a brief few seconds and even the internet light comes on for almost a minute, but then, nothing. Everything goes dark, except for a solid green light. After looking at the manual, I know it's not a corrupted firmware issue, or else the power light would blink and not go solid (or go amber), but it does come on and stay on. I have NOT tried to connect the wireless router via an Ethernet cable (to access either the net or the router's config. intranet page), NOR have I done the factory reset, where you use a pin to push that set-in button (for 5 seconds), the restore the router to factory original settings. I'm thinking that may be my only other thing to try, except for a direct Ethernet cable. What is the best suggestion for the quickest and easiest fix here? I've this model for less than a year, I believe it's either their latest wireless N model or at least quite new since it hasn't been a year yet (but getting close, like almost a month left and I won't have any warranty left). Suggestions please?
Check the wifi on off button on the router ,if it is on then i suggest you use an ethernet cable and check all the settings on the router ,it may be that in the end you will have to factory reset for 7 seconds as i had to once after a power outage ,if you have saved a backup of your settings then try using that first, all netgear routers have that option ,a suggestion is to have a cheap backup router (i have) ,then you can at least google the problem and see if there is a fix ,you can find your user manual here http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNR2000V4/WNR2000v4_UM_14Mar2014.pdf
Testimonial: "The on/off wifi button on the back actually seems to do nothing, lol. I press it, hold it in for a few seconds, to almost a minute and it doesn't seem to either turn the "wireless" function on or off, it seems like a useless button at this point. I think I'll need to use the router by connecting the modem to the router and then via Ethernet cable from the router to my laptop to see if there's internet. If so, I'll then try and access the router's intranet config page and see if I can get the wireless function to work again. If not, I will have to use the factory reset and it's not big deal, I don't have any saved settings and everything is DHCP/standard everything. But I hope one of those two fixes will work, otherwise, it'll take a call to netgear and probably a replacement sent out with a label to send mine back (since my warranty is still in effect, but for maybe just a month longer). Thanks. I'm just using the modem directly to my laptop right now via Ethernet cable to get on this site and do my normal internet stuff. I won't have time to try these things till later cause work calls me shortly, but I'll let ya'll know."
I would just do the reset, this should allow you to access at factory defaults. (I hold button in for 10 sec).
A solid green (power?) light is good
LAN ports should only light if connected
WiFi port should light if set to active
Testimonial: "I think my best bet is to do the factory reset with the head of a paperclip/ect. Why not just put all back to factory orig. settings, ya know. But isn't it odd that the cable modem came back to life just fine and the router only shows power? (At least it's a solid green), and nothing else having to do with some of the other power related issues, thank goodness. I'll let ya'll know what's up later. Work calls. Thanks again."
