Depending on the symptom, and the age, corrosion can set in on the element wires, and corrode the heater element. Eventually, the corrosion causes a high resistance, and eventually the element "burns" out.
Other times, a switch goes open ,or in the case of a coffee maker the High temp interlock stays open. (Need new High Temp Trip Sensor.)
Other times Power Supply to controller dies. Sorry, then cheaper to buy new, as they can be a real pain to get at, to replace, then to verify that they work.
If its a "High end" "Super" or "Ultra" ,then it may need to go to the service centre. (might be cheaper than a new machine).
Could you be a bit more specific about your symptoms? E.g,, is the clock display running but the brew toggle doesn't work? If there's no display, then it's a failed power supply. I did repair a failed switching power supply inside a channel going up
from the bottom to the top, but that's a fix only for a skilled and patient electronics tech (not a replaceable module).
If the display is OK, does the Brew LED come on but no heater action? Could be a blown thermal fuse on the heater, which can be replaced.
My coffee maker did the same thing. I did some research on it, tried bypassing the fuses but could not get it to work. Ultimately, I went out and bought a new Cuisinart coffee maker. We had ours for quite a long time and it always worked great (other than the leaking water lines which I fixed).
Sorry I couldn't be more help!
