My GE Front Load Washing machine randomly sounds like it is draining, for just a few minutes and then it stops, even when it is not running a load and the power is off. Is this normal?
Might be a leaking solenoid.
Testimonial: "Trevor was very patient, informative and helpful. :)"
Wouldn't that cause a water leak? There is no water present around or under the machine.
That is the valve that lets the water into the machine-if it has a slight leak, it will let the water into the machine where the water would go normally. So there would be no signs of leakge anywhere around the machone
Hmmm...that could definitely be the problem then. I don't ever hear any water going in, just the pump & then a small amount of water going down the drain. Do you have a rough guess as to what a repair for this might cost?
No-but it would be on the cheap end of a repair. The part isn't expensive and it's accessible to the serviceman so labour won't be large. The reason you don't hear water going in is that it is probably a small leak, like a slow tire leak....
Thank you so much! :)
I hope I helped. :)
My husband is pretty handy & he's thinking about attempting this repair himself. But when we looked on GE for the part, they didn't show a solenoid - they showed a washer water valve, part #WH13X10023 and an Emi filter, part #WH41X10298. As best we can tell, these look like they're located where solenoids are on other washers. Do you think it might be one of these parts?
Sounds right. He may want to pull the outlet off the solenoids and let them sit in a bucket for awhile to confirm there is a leak-or disconnect the water lines and see if you get the drain issues coming up again.
Water valve should be solenoid-yes.
Weird...I haven't heard it happen in the past two days. You know, Murphy's Law - kind of like how symptoms go away when you're at the doctor's office...lol. Is it possible moving it caused something temporary? We had moved just before this started.
I can't think of anything but nothing is impossible. Happy cleaning
