Unhook EVERYTHING leading out to external stereo components, speakers, etc and see if the sound works. If it does. Then the problem is with either a setting (need set to external) or with a cable, or the way you have the cable plugged into your receiving item.
If the TV is working ok with nothing plugged into it, start over by first reading the manual on hooking up external speakers and see if there is a setting that switches the signal to external ports. AFTER that, plug back in external cabling. If still no joy, look how your have cables plugged into items for sound. If still nothing, replace cable. If still nothing.... sound is highly overrated anyhow.
But seriously, there are no more options to try (been installing stereo systems since 14 and worked at two install shops... my home stereo, turned up full last could rattle soffits on outside of house and broke a window 1610+ watts).
*IF* you are using NO external speakers/amp by some chance... then there must be flaw in the menu, or flaw in the tv,

The first thing I would do if there is any other way to check audio like head phones or aux out to stereo try, this may tell if you have a bad audio chord, not sure exactly how your set up is but a bad chord our improper jack connection might be the answear, good luck ! Bret

I can hear the music but people speaking sounds like they're faint and echoed

If you can hear the music in your PlayStation 3 (PS3) but people speaking sounds faint and echoed, there are a few things you can try to improve the sound quality:
1. Adjust the audio settings: Go to the PS3 menu and select "Settings" > "Sound Settings" > "Audio Output Settings." Choose the appropriate audio output settings for your system and TV or monitor, and make sure that the correct input channel is selected.
2. Check your connections: Make sure that all of your cables are securely connected to the PS3 and the TV or monitor. If the cables are loose, this can cause poor sound quality.
3. Check the game or movie settings: If you are playing a game or watching a movie, check the audio settings within the game or movie to ensure that the sound is optimized for your TV or monitor.
4. Adjust your TV or monitor settings: If the sound quality is still poor, adjust your TV or monitor settings. You may need to adjust the bass, treble, and other audio settings to improve the sound quality.
5. Use headphones: If none of the above solutions work, consider using headphones to listen to the sound from your PS3. This can provide better sound quality and reduce background noise and echoes.
If you continue to experience problems with the sound quality on your PS3, you may need to contact Sony customer support for further assistance or repair.

Take care and have a great day! -Alex

Very low sound when playing a movie.

You have to let the PS3 automaticly check sound after setting up HDMI. Redo the Video setup and let it do everything automaticly. Might check audio settings on the tv its self.

No viedo from dvd on tv screen, only audio

What type of connection are you using when connecting the DVD to the TV? (Component, Svideo, etc) You might want to first try a different connection from the DVD to the TV. Let me know if that works. Could be a bad cable also or a bad connection.
