The status and power lights are flashing and the printer carriage is stuck in the far right position. There are no paper jams or any other visible problems. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Find the metal clip that is attached to the exposed side of the carriage
  4. Follow the metal clip to the bottom of the carriage. Straight back from the bottom of the carriage is another metal clip that is pointing toward the back of the printer
  5. Using a screwdriver or similar tool, push the metal clip (indicated by call-out 2 in the graphic below) toward the back of the printer.
  6. Gently rock the carriage up and down while pulling the carriage from the right-hand side toward the center of the printer.
  7. If the carriage is still locked in place, push the metal clip
  8. After the carriage is pulled out from the right-hand side of the printer, remove both print cartridges
  9. clean the connections and reconnect them
  10. Push the carriage back to the right-hand side of the printer.
  11. Close the top cover.
Properly storing the ink cartridges will increase their life. The following are guidelines for storing cartridges for future use.

How to remove the cartridge from hp photo smart 7960

Hello the manual way to release cartridge is

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Look for the gray-colored carriage on the right side of the printer.
  4. Find the horizontal (bottom) edge of the carriage and follow it towards the back (or in) until it makes a 90-degree turn. Follow it down to the ¼ inch-high, black-colored capping station.
  5. Using a screwdriver or similar tool, push the capping station toward the back of the printer.
NOTE: Do not pull on the ribbon cable when moving the carriage.
  6. Making sure to not push up on the carriage, move the carriage to the middle of the printer. If the carriage is still locked in place, push the capping station farther into the printer and try moving the carriage again.
  7. After the carriage is pulled out from the right-hand side of the printer, remove both print cartridges and store them according to specifications.
  8. Close the top cover.

Won't shoot staples. Proper loading instructions please.

Make sure the staples you are using are compatable with your gun they should be type 53 or JT21 staples and they are not longer tham the gun is capable of taking I think the maximum capacity for this gun is 5/16 or 8mm.
Turn the gun upside down and pull back the carriage, the staples are laid in the empty chamber in the gun itself not on the carriage points facing in the direction they fire ie points facing you .
Push back the carriage this should slide over the strip of staples until the carriage clicks shut.
You should now be ready to fire, try and keep pressure down on the gun as the recoil can make the gun bounce and you will leave the staples proud.
Hope this helps.

The on button and arrow button are flashing (cant Print)

Hi. This error means "A carriage jam has occurred".

The steps to correct this problem are (from HP support):

Step one: Move the carriage

1.Lift the top cover of the product.
2.Turn the product off, and then turn it on.
3.Unplug the power cord from the back of the product when the grinding noise starts.
4.Move the carriage towards the middle of the product (this procedure may take a couple of tries to get the timing correct).

Step two: Remove the cartridges

1.Press down lightly on top of the cartridge latch.
2.Pull out the bottom of the latch to unhook it.
3.Slide the print cartridge out of the carriage.
4.Repeat the steps for the other cartridge.
5.Close the top cover.
6.Reconnect the power cord.

Step three: Reinstall the print cartridges

1.Open the printer cover.
2.Wait until the carriage moves to the right side of the printer and is idle and silent.
3.Press down lightly on top of the cartridge latch.
4.Pull out the bottom of the latch to unhook it.
5.Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strips are on the bottom and facing toward the printer, and then slide the print cartridge into the carriage.
* Install the tri-color print cartridge in the left side of the carriage.
* Install the black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge in the right side of the carriage.
NOTE: To easily identify the correct side of the carriage in which to install the print cartridge, match the symbol on the print cartridge label with the symbol above the carriage.

6.Push down on the print cartridge latch until it snaps closed.
7.Lower the cover of the product.

Two choices; 1. Take the machine apart and take the roller out and then bend back the little follower.
2. Break the offending follower off and hope the paper still feeds through OK.
