What you are on is sometimes called "Burst" mode. It is meant to be taking pictures of things like baseball players, so you can get the shot right were he hits the ball. I am not a owner of an olympus camera, but look through your cameras settings, and try to find that setting and switch to "single".
Look in your manuel for more detailed instructions.
Have you tryed eraseing / formating it in the 740?
Make sure the camara uses the card instead of internal memory
it might be that its saveing the images into the cameras internal memory witch is probably just about 3-4 shots.
Instead of shutter priority "Tv" mode, try setting to program "P" mode instead. Also, turn off the flash, and set to macro if shooting close-in (press downward on the little flower icon on the back disk). If pictures come out blurry, try using a tripod to hold the camera steady, or set the camera down on an object so it doesn't move while taking the shot. Try using the timer to activate the shutter to allow the camera to remain even steadier for the shot.
It can be that your batteries are low and takes longer to charge the flash... It can also be that your memory card is a slow on. If the red processing light on the back of the camera is staying on a long time, it means the camera is having trouble feeding the picture to the card... You might try decreasing the picture quality a little...
On the back of the camera there is a small button just to the right of the top of the LCD which has what looks like a little clock. Pressing this button will take you through the 3 modes of operation which are: Single shot, multiple shots and timer. Watch the LCD panel and you should see the icon change when you press the button. When the single rectangle is showing, that is single shot, when it is multiple staggered rectangles that is multi shot and when you see a little clock that is timer mode. Usually I shoot with multi shot mode.
you can erase ALL data on the card (all pictures) and not a chosen few as this camera is not having that option.
to erase all pictures simply FORMAT the card in the "FUNCTION" MENU .
Burst mode is set in the Menu of the camera. Then press left arrow instead of right arrow. You will see normal or burst mode. Select normal mode. Hope this helps.
If the Camera is capable of Multishots then the manual will tell you how.
Taking pictures of fast moving object depends on what sort of result you require.
If you wish to 'stop' the object with a blurred background then with the camera of P setting simply pan [swing] with the object as it moves and press the shutter when in centre- So with lets say a fast car come from right moving to left[the the other way] point far right ans move with the car as it comes to your centre click but keep moving your swing.
But there is no substitute for practice and experiment
