To resolve the annoying "change the batteries" problem. Goto menu, choose yellow menu, select
file No. reset to ON. Turn camera off and back on.

Voila fixed.

My A480 has File numbering - but the options are "auto reset" and "continuous" - neither of which stop the 'change battery' symbol flashing and then turning off....any other suggestions.

I was having the same issue as well. It actually turned out to be a physical problem. Somewhere along the way our camera may have been dropped and broke a tab that kept the door from staying completely shut on one corner. This kept one of the batteries from maintaining contact. So what I did to fix it was to bend the outer contact out a bit. After I did that, it no longer shuts off on itself. I got the idea from a similar problem posted on YouTube to solve it for a Canon Powershot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G99lRX6M4ZE

Are the batteries old and been charged many times? Have they ever been allowed to sit around for a long time and completely discharge (which will shorten the life and prevent full recharge). Have you tried cleaning the contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol?

I've got the same problem with 2 A 480 canon. I put in NiMH batteries and they work fine. If you put in slightly drained used batteries they work!! Nimh batteries are 1.2 volts and Alkaline are 1.5 volts. There is definitly a problem with this camera. I measured the voltages of brand new batteries 1.51 volts each and they didn't work. I put in some old batteries 1.4 and 1.42 volts and they worked fine.

How i can recharge canon digi cam

The A480 uses two AA batteries. If you want to use rechargeable batteries, you must charge them in a separate charger. The A480 does not include any charging circuitry.

Where do you charge your canon powershot A480 batteries?

Assuming you're using rechargable AA batteries, you can charge them in any standard charger. You should be able to find chargers at at any department, electronics, or office-supply store.

You can't charge them in the camera, since it doesn't include any charging circuitry.
