All of a sudden, I get a change batteries signal and low battery light and it just shuts off. I'm putting brand new batteries in it, it does the same thing, starts up for second then switches off

To resolve the annoying "change the batteries" problem. Goto menu, choose yellow menu, select
file No. reset to ON. Turn camera off and back on.
Voila fixed.
Same thing and the Solution gave never worked,.. i think alkaline battery works good.. becuase i brough 2750Mh Nikon original and recharged for 2 hours as per manual and i was able to take >65pics and if i use alkaline , i would reach 200pics without flash and 150 with Flash .. Trust me.. i tested on my brand new Canon A480
I was having the same issue as well. It actually turned out to be a physical problem. Somewhere along the way our camera may have been dropped and broke a tab that kept the door from staying completely shut on one corner. This kept one of the batteries from maintaining contact. So what I did to fix it was to bend the outer contact out a bit. After I did that, it no longer shuts off on itself. I got the idea from a similar problem posted on YouTube to solve it for a Canon Powershot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G99lRX6M4ZE
