Clean clean clean at least once a month with recommended cleaner for your particular washer, make sure to run cleaning cycle in empty washer at first, then maybe a hot cycle with old rags/ towels you don't care much about. Also, some liquid softeners can leave marks. Try cleaning first, then with towls/rags. Don't forget that if you have a front loading machine black mold can form inside barrel, or the grey rubber that seals the door and machine tightly shut.

A buildup of detergent residue can occur in the wash tub over time and can lead to a mildew or musty smell. The TUB CLEAN cycle is specially designed to remove this buildup. Press and hold the EXTRA RINSE button for 3 seconds to activate this cycle. The display will show a message to add liquid bleach to the dispenser. After the cycle has ended, open the door and allow the drum interior to dry completely. NOTE: Do NOT use this cycle with clothes, and do NOT add detergent or fabric softener.

I think you model has a tub clean mode. i would try to do that. basically no clothes, no detergent, just fill the bleach dispenser and run the tub clean mode. press power and then hold in the tub clean button on the right for 3 secs. then press start.

Testimonial: "This was has no tub clean mode or button."

i think it does. one of the button under the led display is an option button and it is for tub clean. hold it in for 3 secs and that option is selected. take a real close look.

I have a maytag top loading washer. the washer if set to medium load or large or super large load only fills to the half full level,

My maytag has a rubber tube that goes from the bowl up to the level sensor. I would try removing this tube and blowing it out to make sure that it is clear and not perished.

LG fuzzy logic top loader leaves black marks on white. Happens when doing a large wash-eg; blanket -it looks awful. I'm thinking the insides might need cleaning? How is this done and with what product

If this is moldy looking you should use 1 cup of bleach in the drum with no clothes on the longest wash cycle with the hottest water. But I believe this is oil from the drive train and the seals on the bottom of the drum are going bad. When you wash something heavy like the blanket, it leaks.

Which is better for the dryer and why, dryer sheets or fabric softener in the wash?

Liquid in the washer is better since sheets in the dryer are prone to leaving stains (read back of package about stain warning on every box of softener sheets i have ever seen) also the sheets leave a build up on the thermostats and moisture sensor

While the liquid in the washer softens the clothes and has no build up or staining issues such as the sheets

Our tumble action front-loader washer just recently started leaving black marks in the pattern of the holes on the inside of the washer drum- We ran it twice without anything in the washer, and it still...

Thanks for stopping by:

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some de-greaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Why is my washer leaving black stains on my clothes

It sounds like it might be leaving mold deposits. Try running a cycle with no clothes in it, hot, with a cup of bleach. If the stains are more brown than black, though, that would be rust in the pipes.

I have a bosch classixx 1200 when i wash a load of whites there is often a small amount of dark spots of deposit on the sheets if this is wiped off when wet it rubs into the material if we wait until dry...

Yes - I get this - you have to wipe the inside of the drum rubber ring - not just throught the groves but sludge seems to collect in between the rubber ring and metal drum; you will need quite a bit of kitchen towel!
