The Sony TC-766-2 is a 2 track (half track) format deck. In those types of decks used for mastering, there is NO side two. The deck uses the entire width of the tape in the one direction. What you are expecting is the side two of a 1/4 track deck and this is NOT what a 766-2 is for. That is why the -2 is on the model name. NO two track decks of any brand have a side two.

SOURCE: play back on Sanyo mr-929 reel-to-reel tape recorder is backwards

I also have an MR-929. The information that you need is in the 'Stereophonic 4 track stereo''. As stereo is only two tracks, there is another 2 tracks in addition to the one you are listening to. Wind the entire reel to the empty spool, and then play that. As you have to physically turn the reel over to do so, you should then hear the other tracks (or track, if recorded in mono).
I use my 929 to play my parents recording of my family from the late 60s, which were recorded on a valve (tube) Ferguson machine, which had a green "magic eye" level indicator, which as a child I found fascinating!

SOURCE: My Sony TC630 reel to reel recorder, is playing at

Hi there
MOst tape drive problems of this nature can be directly attributed to failing belts and idler drive surfaces. If you are a bit of a mechanical gun, you could overhaul and resolve this problem yourself. You can get a belt kit to freshen up the deck from here
Replacing them may be a little daunting if you are not mechanically minded, but within the realms of most home DIYers. Happy to help you with advice and answer any questions you may have if you choose to go this way. Cheers

SOURCE: Sony TC-138SD cassette deck starts

It sounds like the belt is slipping or broken which monitors the speed of the tape movement. When you play or rewind the tape, it thinks the tape has reached the end of play and shuts off. You can try a different tape to make sure the tape does not have too much tension on it. If the second tape has the same result you will need to remove the top cover of the deck to inspect the tape drive mechanism. Make sure the belts and pulleys are clean and replace any belts which have glazing or cracks. If the belt is broken you will need to replace it with a compatible belt of the same length and width.

Sony TC-WR670 how to copy my old cassettes to new tape on bay B?

I can't fing my manuals either. I have the same one. I think you put the originalin one side and the blank in the other. Rewind both to starting point. Press play and pause on original. Press the red record button on the copy tape. Then press pause and press the high speed dub button. If nothing happens hit the pause button on each side. Just trying to remember. May not be right.

I have a sony TC 530. Fast fwd and rewind work

You need to replace the motor run capacitor. It's a small aluminum can looking thing with three wires right next to the motor; they often leak paraffin wax into the bottom of the case when they overheat. Whether or not yours has leaked it's easy to replace if you can use a soldering iron. Search eBay for a Sony reel to reel 1.5uf 250VAC motor run capacitor - they're less than $15 and come with detailed instructions.

Won`t Rewind

Do you still have the remote control? Try with the remote. If this works, the button of the camera is broken and have to be replace by a qualified technician. Good luck!

Pedal problems

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.
