SOURCE: slide arm does not go completely forward
My Friend,
It seems you really have outdone yourself! The only thing I can recommend is to go to your local gunsmith ( a gun store could help in the location of one hint, hint) and have them disassemble the old gal. they will assess the damages done by your rookie mistake, and hopefully it's not too bad eh (she's a beauty she is). next time I STRONGLY recommend you take every precaution necessary to not damage you the guns or others. I STRONGLY recommend cleanings after every use, and please be sure to slide the slide arm all the way forward next time. You are lucky you were not hurt.
In my opinion though you may have broken a crucial spring, lock the slide gate shut, and/or dislocated the base of the spring. the shell not fitting I would say is a barrel issue with unburnt black powder, or a small dent in the barrel form the slide mechanism. BUT I HIGHLY recommend you do not try to repair this in your home or take my diagnosis as I have not seen the gun, nor am I a professional gunsmith.
Best Wishes,
KidKRYLON
SOURCE: after sitting in driveway, back wheels have completely locked up.
Chock the front tires, loosen up the lug nutes on the rear tires, jack the rear end up, uncap the adjuster dust caps on the back of the rear drums, either use a brake spoon or straight blade screwdriver and turn the star adjuster while spinning the wheel until you have no resistance. If this does not work remove the rear tires and hit the sides of the drums with a small sledge hammer or hammer to loosen & break up the rust, When you get movement on the drum, hit it betweeen the studs. Be patient, this may take some time.

SOURCE: loading a stanley electric stape/nail gun
The problem you are having is common, so don’t feel bad. I learned all of this helping another individual that had no idea how to use this tool. The confusion comes from the fact that it loads differently than most staplers. The staples are NOT loaded on top of the pull out shaft; they are inserted directly into the slot that opens when you pull the shaft out. The other big issue is a safety feature. If the nose of the tool is not placed firmly against a surface, it will not fire. Go to Stanley’s website’s knowledge base and type in the model number TRE550, and you can get a PDF of directions. Here is a step by step with a pic below: Unplug the tool. Squeeze the end of the shaft at the rear bottom of the tool and pull out the shaft. Flip the tool over on it’s back. Insert the staples, (points up) and then slide the shaft back in. Plug it in, press the on button (under the the power cord in the back). Press the nose squarely against the material and press the trigger.
