I have a nikon D70s and a Nikon 70-200mm lens. It has worked fine -- and suddenly the autofocus stopped working. I have the Lens settings on M/A, Full, VR on and Normal. The camera is set to AF on the external switch. Other lenses don't seem to have a problem.
Any ideas of what could be happening or of others experiencing this? This lens is relatively new to me -- so i am hoping it is user error or user ignorance.
Nice lens too... I would take a good look at the electrical contacts on that lens. If OTHER lenses are truly working correctly, you have eliminated the camera as the cause and need to look at that specific lens. The first thing that I would try is taking a pencil eraser and rubbing all of the contacts with it. This will often clean the contacts of dirt and grime and clear off any "coating" that may have accumulated over the metal portion of the contacts. Barring this, I would send the lens to Nikon for servicing. It is a high percision device and taking it apart yourself is NOT recommended.
