Go to menu then setup if you donot see convergence on menu then you have a blowed Fuse FL231 it will be on Bottom board to left side onthe righht side of FBT flyback transfomer there is 3 of them in a roll small brwn rectangler looking caps But are fuses the one in the middle is it. It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.
That is the PIP (picture in picture) setting, on the TV's remote control. locate the button marked PIP and press the button, it should clear the little box.
I had the same problem. A big black box in the middle of the screen that would temperarily go away if with the EDS button.
Go to the main menu and turn off closed captioning. It worked for me! :D
