The chances of the ballast failing are small on this model. Count how many times the Yellow light flashes before it pauses. Then google 57HM167 and the amount of blinks. ie " 57HM167 Yellow light flashes 3 times" That will tell you what you need to know. You can also post it here and we can help. I suspect you have a stuck fan(the fans are monitored to see if they are spinning. If not, they will not allow the TV to start up). Or you have the cover for the lamp not installed all the way. There is a switch that the lamp cover activates and the the TV will not turn on without it secured.

TV comes on, but, no picture, no sound

Good day!!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

Toshiba TheaterWide 57HM167 Won't Turn On After Bulb Replacement

There is a ballast which drives the lamp--a hint would be to try to be in a position if possible to see if lamp ignites at all or even for a moment.

The ballasts do fail but rarely----it develops about 12,000 plus to the lamp and is much like spark plug wires as far as rf.

Some checks would have to be made and then the ballast priced--google the model number with ballast after it to get and idea.

No cut and dried solution here--several possible causes.

Jvc hd-52g886 wont turn on

Hi!
That's a clear indication that you have a bad power supply in your TV.
If you know how to DiY...I suggest you open your TV. Locate the power supply section, it is where the end of the power plug is connected. Replace all blown or bulge or leaked capacitors with same value. That will fix your TV problem.
The hardest part is to disassembling your TV cover, cause you will need to pry off the snap in lock at the edge of your TV.

Power supply board should look like this. Examine the capacitors in the board
power%281%29.jpg2_23_2012_11_31_16_am.png

After replacing blown capacitors...it should work again.
caps%281%29%281%29.jpg

Things you will need.
1. A plastic flat end screw or any object with flat ends....to fry off the cover
2. Soldering iron.
3. Soldering lead
4. Soldering pump.
5. Flat and Philip Screw
6. Replacement capacitors (of same value with the blown one) that you can buy to any electronics store.

Hope it helps

I have a 2006 Thomson/RCA ModelM50WH72S TV that we have replaced the lamp, it still does not work and a technician has told us that we need a light engine for it. How can we locate one?

have the same tv,, power light blinks, book said it was bulb, bulb didnt fix it,took it to tv repair shop, they found a bad capacitor, replaced it with a higher heat range capacitor, this capacitor was on the power board for the lamp circuit, repair was $200, not bad since i paid $1500 for the tv, other than that issue, just replaced a couple of lamps

Power light flashes but TV does not come on: no picture no sound. 34" HD Magnavox 32MF231D/37

Check if it the picture may be just faint. If it is it may be a bad ballast or weak back light. If there is none at all, it may be a problem with the power supply. This is the first circuit after the power chord. There may be loose connections, leaking or swollen capacitors or burnt resistors or the IC or the entire circuit may be bad. This is a common issue with these type of devices. While at it check the rest of the circuit for the same items. There are cases where the problem is with the main board.
