I imagine you are simply running a normal channel scan. It only finds channels if you have a coaxial cable attached to the TV input on the back. If you have a cable attached, it has to have cable tv service to it. Newer Digital Cable requires a special box, when it is connected to TV input, it would only find 1 channel on your scan, channel 3 or 4 usually. If you only have a TV antennae attached, it has to be a digital tv antennae. They stopped broadcasting UHF/VHF TV quite a few years back. Most Cable boxes/ Satellite boxes use HDMI/DVI/Component connections that are Hi Def to connect to TV's.
