When I turn the TV on, the green light goes on. After a few minutes the green light goes out and I get static in the headphones. Then I turn the TV off and the green light comes on. After a few minutes the green light goes off again. Then the cycle repeats.

Hello, I believe I just figured out the solution to this problem. I was experiencing the same thing, and as I was just showing my friend the problem I noticed that the green light came on after I turned on the music on my computer.
So, after removing the headphones from the base, the green light will come on only if there is sound playing from the computer (It takes a few seconds to turn on). It seems like they should have mentioned this somewhere in the manual...

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions

If your set was manufactured around July 2005, you may need a firmware upgrade to solve this issue. On the Sony website you can enter your model # and serial # to see if you TV is affected. If so, it is easy to have done and may be free from Sony. It sounds like the issue they described in the writeup on the required formware update. I had mine done within few months of when i bought it (purchased in Dec 2005) and it has been working flawlessly since.
Good luck!

SOURCE: No green On/Off light. Charge light is red. I hear only static.
Two things.. Check the batteries..
Also.. since these headphones have to have a signal sent to them to activate transmission (green light simply indicates they are receiving a signal) it can take a few moments after the signal begins to activate them.
I would hazard a guess that when you unplug the cables and then plug them back in.. the feedback that generates activates the base much the same as a regular audio signal would
Finally.. make sure the source is a fixed output.. if not.. and its variable..you will have to increase the output or volume to activate the base..
Good luck!

Here are some more details. I have a TV with sudio our and speaker jacks on the side. I have a stereo receiver and the TV audio goes through the receiver. The cordless headphones plug into the tv headphone jack.
When I turn the TV on the green light (on the cordless headphones goes on. After 3 minutes the green light goes off. If I turn the TV off at this point, the green light goes on. After 3 minutes the green light goes off. And this cycle repeates. Turning the volume up on the TV does nothing. I have tried 3 sets of rechargable batteries. I have found that if I plug the cordless headphones into the headphone jack on the stereo rreceiver, it works ok.
